“Mycena interrupta, aka Pixies Parasol, is a stunning blue mushroom found in Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, and Chile. It’s found in rainforests or beech & eucalyptus forests, growing in small colonies on rotting, moist wood.”🔍

We apologize to all frogs and toads, for not having nearly enough of these amazing animals on our covers. We will do better.

Mycena chloroxantha

Mycena chloroxantha

Mycena chloroxantha photographed recently in Oxapampa, Peru. The round cells are cherocytes which make up the universal veil - whitish, spiny acanthocytes are also visible. Described in 1983 from Brazil by Rolf Singer.

A large mushroom with inverted gills that flare upward instead of downward grows out of the ground, which is covered in bright orange pine needle duff. The gills are a magnificent blue-green color after aging. The mushroom's color starts as vibrant orange and over time turns into the blue-green color we see in this shot. Hints of its original orange color are seen in spots throughout the gills.

Thanks for showing off your gorgeous green gills! Lactarius aurantiosordidus turns a beautiful blue-green as it ages 💙💚

First time building a terrarium and enjoyed the process so much. Went for the ancient lab site with some new hazmat researchers. Might become a new hobby.

Congressional reform idea of the week: Congress is not allowed to leave on vacation until a full and functional budget is passed for the entire government.

If it’s been more than 6 months on CRs, they don’t get weekends either.

Please enjoy our research paper on how Bluesky is the preferred home of academics of all stripes, including professors of rare moths. (Yes, we actually have lots of entomologists here).

Every politician says "more housing." It's not enough to say "more housing." We should demand a serious housing agenda.

Build millions of public units. Pass a nationwide tenant bill of rights. Ban hedge funds owning homes.

Good morning. The President of the United States was in the middle of the most serious child sex trafficking ring of the last quarter century.

He is referenced not a dozen times in the case files. Not 100 times. Not 1,000 times. He’s referenced 38,000 times.

What do you MEAN the president audibly SHIT himself live on camera and they immediately cancelled the press conference and rushed everyone out of the room like it's a fire drill, and it happened two days ago, and I'm just hearing about it NOW?

Maximum intensity projection showing dorsal vasculature of the first gill arch of a CUBIC-cleared adult kdrl:mCherry zebrafish. Fluorescent signal was pseudocoloured using the PBIYC lookup table in ImageJ. Analysis of this endothelial reporter enabled detailed mapping of gill vascular development and revealed distinct medial and lateral filament types. Credit text to the journal Development. Rice students create nationwide ICE tracker to monitor immigration enforcement The students had been teaching weekly children's classes as volunteers. One day, the kids stopped showing up.

ICYMI, Rice University students have developed a free online map to track ICE activity throughout the country.

Oh… my… f***. While not the only author I’ve read, but a significant one in the field, I’ve enjoyed his books. They’re great scientific narrations and got me into infectious disease but knowing this makes my want to purge any and all knowledge out of my head. I’m gonna be sick

Apple & Google removed ICE tracking apps in their app stores.

TikTok reportedly suppressed videos criticizing ICE & the shooting of Alex Pretti.

Meta blocked Facebook groups tracking ICE & links to a database of agents that the government wants to keep secret.

Victorian-style AI slop. A small girl in a blue dress whose name is not Alice for copyright reasons stands in a forest and stares up at an absurdly giant mushroom, surrounded by many other biologically inaccurate fungi. The scene attempts to hint at fungal diversity, scale, and deep evolutionary relationships. Roughly what happens when you reanalyze ~2,000 fungal genomes and realize how much biology is still hiding in the woods.

What can we learn from comparing ~2,000 fungal genomes?
