📣 EvolDir is now managed by @eseb.bsky.social!
We are delighted to be taking the reins and express our gratitude to both Brian Golding who began this service to the community in the mid-1980s and to @rdmpage.bsky.social who ran this account until now 👏
You can now find evoldir here: evoldir.net
Obrigado 🙏🏽

A (non-realistic) „sticker“ I drew in procreate of Eulalia sp., a green paddle worm of the family Phyllodocidae.
If life hands you a deadline, draw polychaete stickers!
(Am supposed to be working on velvet worm nephridia, but oh well…)

Finding molecular tags that localise fluorescent proteins to the cell membrane was the goal of our latest paper, now published in Development @dev-journal.bsky.social. The tags act as address labels, sending proteins to the cell membrane, where they highlight the shape and arrangement of cells. 2/9
Wonderful zooms on a large Tomopteris! A little less than a meter probably.

Feels like this paper on protein-templated DNA synthesis by a natural enzyme warrants some comment.

From our UK side, we thank the @erc.europa.eu , the BBSRC and @qmulsbbs.bsky.social for the funding and support. And to all the help from our lab members in @chemamd.bsky.social , Schneider lab and Ferrier lab @uniofstandrews.bsky.social
Now we can celebrate at #EED26 in Glasgow 🏴🥳

After very positive, but laborious revisions, we pulished the preprint and did a lot of new experiments.
We thank the two great evodevo scientists Néva Meyer and Detlev Arendt, plus a third anonymous reviewer for all the suggestions and comments.

Very proud of my 2nd PhD student, Pedro Romero Charria, who defended his viva yesterday. Big thanks to @michael-imbeault.bsky.social and Roman Arguello for the discussion. Pedro's main work on #6mA in protists was published late last year (www.nature.com/articles/s41...), but there's more to come!
🔈 Heading to Euro Evo-Devo #EED2026 in Glasgow? Don't miss out our Fish Satellite Meeting! Co-organized with Mike Dorrity @mwdorr.bsky.social, Ralf Schneider @ralfschneider.bsky.social, Laure Sanders @lsaunders.bsky.social and Joost Woltering, and with a list of outstanding speakers 👇

These wondrous worms build their homes directly on the rocky vent chimneys where temperatures can reach up to 105 degrees Celsius (221 degrees Fahrenheit). 🔥
Pompeii worms (Alvinella pompejana) live on hydrothermal vent “chimneys,” where superheated water belches from within the Earth’s crust.
Back at the microscope, getting some data for #EED26 in Glasgow 🏴🪱

Last day to submit an abstract! This is a meeting aimed at all career stages, but especially geared on early career scientists (PhD/postdoc), don't feel you need to have a perfectly polished story to present!

🏅 Fifth Place – DevBio Art Contest 🎨 “The Leech Family” 🪱 Helobdella austinensis, a very dorky segmented worm that’s taught us decades of developmental biology! 🧬 This clay piece by @biyolokum.bsky.social captures their quirky life as hermaphroditic parents carrying babies on their belly 💚
A new strain of transgenic Platynereis. At this stage, this is still a great joy. Hopefully, several more will follow soon ...
I hope other teams are making progress with this notoriously resistant species. Let's make Platy the marine D melanogaster ! #platynereis #wormwednesday #evodevo
