Several years ago I carved 5 male Northern Cardinal Christmas ornaments for my wife, our daughter, and her three adult children. I will do a different bird (perhaps a Chickadee) ornament this year.

The female Junco that has built her nest in the large flower pot just to the left of our front door. She was off the nest this morning when I saw her chipping in alarm as I stood
on the porch. I know she has five eggs about to hatch.

I’m left wondering what the other “thing” coming is (end of first paragraph)?

A photograph of a Bryophyte that is not a moss. It shows several thalli of the liverwort Marchantia with gemmule cups containing gemmae. Gemmae are intact pieces of the thallus, forming part of the asexual reproductive cycle of the plant.

Mosquito Fern (Azolla caroliniana), the larger red/green plant in center of photo, surrounded by maybe two species of duckweed (Lemna and Wolffia), small flowering plants floating in an aquatic holding tank in a commercial plant nursery.

Here is a photo I took at the Claquato Church several years ago. My in-laws and our daughter are buried in the nearby Claquato Cemetery (my wife and I will also be buried there).

Yes, the Mountain (Mount Rainier) is out today in the great PNW! Here is a double exposure photo I made from two photos taken with my iPhone, my favorite mug and a photo of the mountain just to the south.

MossyMonday

Western Washington has experienced persistent rainfall recently. The rain subsided several days ago, prompting me to engage in moss hunting. I photographed this small mossy patch with a few lichens among it on our wet fence railing.
