A photograph of a Bryophyte that is not a moss. It shows several thalli of the liverwort Marchantia with gemmule cups containing gemmae. Gemmae are intact pieces of the thallus, forming part of the asexual reproductive cycle of the plant.

There are nearly 400 species of Sphagnum. Many of these are key components of bogs, and may be threatened by overharvesting for peat. #sphagnum #bryophtes #moss #bogs #eriecounty #wny
A patch of mosses in the fork of a marked willow tree. One bright green cushion with sporophytes. An assortment of moss tufts and a strand of branched moss.
A biodiverse patch of moss on my garden willow tree.
How many species here?

Our final interesting find of the week in the Lye Valley was this Pale Liverwort (Chiloscyphus pallescens) – very scarce in Oxfordshire. Another candidate for our "assisted colonisation programme" of giving rare #bryophtes a helping hand!
(Sorry about the rather dodgy photo.)
