White linen fabric pieces partially stacked and spread out on a wooden table with scissors, showing an in-progress preparation stage.
Current stage: cutting and working through fabric for the next batch.
It’s a little chaotic here, but this step is what keeps everything consistent once it’s dyed.

Dried marigold flowers arranged on a wooden surface, showing raw dye material.
This is where the color starts.
Dried marigold before it becomes part of a dye batch.

A cross stitch project stitched on light green fabric showing a poison dart frog with big bat-like wings. A long tongue curls out of the frog-dragon's mouth, with the tip touching a flying moth. The project is staged with shiny stones, succulents, thistle, and live moss. BAD Stitch.

Why is Anzu wyliei not represented?- Come on. They are the best by far.
Two stacks of purple hand-dyed fabric showing variation in marbling while keeping a consistent color tone.
A lighter version of one of my core colorways.
Each piece varies slightly, but the overall tone stays consistent across the batch.

Glass jars lined up with fabric submerged in dye, showing small-batch dyeing setup.
A dye batch in progress.
Each piece develops individually, which is how the variation stays controlled across the batch.

Attempting to take photos.

People think differently? White chocolate is the best.
Side-by-side comparison of Desert Poppy fabric on different bases showing variation in tone and texture.
Desert Poppy across different bases.
Same color, but the texture and variation change depending on the fabric you choose.

Wide view of Tea Time dyed fabric laid flat with a small pile of loose tea leaves, showing soft beige tones and natural variation.
Tea Time as a fabric.
The color comes from pressing loose leaf tea directly onto the surface, so the variation settles where the leaves sit.
It’s a slower process, but it gives each piece its own pattern.

Close-up of natural tea-dyed cross stitch fabric showing soft beige and brown variation.
Tea Time, created by pressing loose leaf tea directly onto the fabric instead of using a dye bath.
The color forms in place, which is why the variation looks softer and more scattered.

14 count white Aida fabric bolt from Zweigart laid out on a wooden table, showing the texture and weave of the fabric before dyeing.
14 count white Aida fabric bolt from Zweigart laid out on a wooden table, showing the texture and weave of the fabric before dyeing.
Before the dye, it starts here.
Zweigart base fabric, broken down and prepped for small-batch dyeing.
The color comes later—the foundation matters first.

Oh ya - the car is great. I have a long trip coming up and I'm already planning what books to put on during the drive.
Monthly reading wrap-up showing a grid of book covers for March 2026, including a mix of historical fiction, romance, and contemporary titles.
Here’s what I read in March.
I tend to bounce between reading and audiobooks depending on what I’m doing—stitching, dyeing, or just sitting down with a book.
Do you prefer physical books, audiobooks, or a mix?

Hand-dyed cross stitch fabric in a saturated teal-blue (Blue Lagoon) with three embroidery floss colors (navy, red, and light neutral) arranged on top, showing a planned palette for a new blackwork project.
Planning out the next start ✨
Blue Lagoon felt like the right foundation for this one — clean, saturated, and just enough depth to let the stitching stand out.
Fabric choices always change the final piece more than we expect
🌙 NEW CROSS STITCH PATTERN ✨ Soaring Sky Bat is finally in the shop as a PDF! 🎉

Bats are great, celestial motifs are great, and cross stitch glow effects are great— So what's not to love?? 😊 finefrogstitching.com

A folded piece of blue and gray marbled cross-stitch fabric centered on a larger matching fabric background, showing the cloudy dye pattern of the Winter Sky colorway.
New colorway: Winter Sky
Cool blue tones with cloudy marbling and deeper stormy patches.
Each piece is dyed separately in small batches, so every cut will have slightly different movement in the color.
Available on Aida, opal Aida, linen, and Lugana.

I've seen these around, and they look like fun. Do they have variable speeds? I have an 18yo that's starting to slow down but would love this if it would go more her speed.
Partially completed full coverage cross stitch on easy grid lugana. The top left corner of the pieces is filled in with a pink (dawn/dusk?) sky with the main sails of a ship taking shape.
Making slow progress on my ship while I do some test stitching this month. Hopefully more exciting progress pics soon. lol
A finished cross-stitch banner laid on a wooden table showing black stitched text on a red, white, and green mottled fabric. The piece is mounted on a small wooden dowel with black hanging cord.
Finished this piece earlier this year from a Taylor & Cromwell kit.
The fabric included in a kit is just perfect for the design and there’s no reason to change it.
I also tried finishing the back with felt for the first time to help protect the stitches from snagging.

A cross stitch project on deep blue fabric, staged with foliage and fake flowers and an oval ornate frame. The stitch shows a tree stump with a little door and window, with stacked mushrooms, tiny flowers, acorns, and new growth representing spring. There's a tiny winged fairy flying above, leaving behind cross stitches in a rainbow gradient. BAD Stitch.
Happy Spring!!
Buying a home is impossible in the current market, so let's just live in tree stumps. This pattern is called Cottage in the Woods and can be found in my shop, or ask your favorite needlework shop to stock it for you.

Two hand-dyed fabrics placed side by side at a slight angle. Left is Kihada, a soft natural yellow. Right is Merlot, a rich wine red with subtle tonal variation.
Bold or soft?
Kihada or Merlot.
Warm and natural, or deep and dramatic.
The fabric you start with can completely change how a pattern feels.
What are you stitching on right now?

Close view of a nearly completed blackwork cross stitch with red stitched background text layered behind bold outlined lettering on grey hand-dyed fabric.
Almost there.
The red fill is nearly finished, and the lettering is finally starting to hit the way I pictured it.
Pausing this one for a model stitch next — but I’ll be back to finish it.
