Five skeins of hand spun Romney wool lying vertically side by side on an unbleached linen cloth. The skein on the far left is a strong pink, the next skein a deep pinky red, the middle skein is lavender blue the next is a darker blue and the far right skein is yellow.

After finishing spinning the first of four Romney fleeces, I have made a start on dyeing the skeins. This first batch is dyed with cochineal, logwood and home grown coreopsis.

To achieve this beautiful green shade, I heated this silk scarf in a bath of marigolds. Next, I dyed it with logwood extract (blue/purple). The silk was also steamed with a variety of plants to create the speckled pattern. #botanicaldye #logwood

A large pot filled with a purprle dye and lots of fabric that is beginning to turn purple.

Getting some Logwood fabric ready to restock the shop. This is one of my favorite colors. We'll see how this batch turns out in a couple of days. As a natural dye, there is a lot more variation between batches than you see in chemical dye techniques.
