With the issues around class gender race and diversity in general facing the record keeping sector at the moment, I cannot recommend this book enough. A brilliant introduction and lots of practical guidance we can apply to our sector.
Give it a read!

It's #dpc #digitalpreservation #ff Follow Friday. This week a simple reflection. Data has never mattered more, and never more fragile. #DPC and the #digipres community have expertise and contacts that will help with that. Spread the word and save the bits.
Explore Your Archive is now on BlueSky! Come say Hi @ @exploreyourarchive.bsky.social . So many gems found in archives being posted every day!
Photo-Me trashed all their analogue booths when restructuring in late 90s so all analogue photobooths today are run by independent people/small companies. I’ve been conducting interviews w/all these techs (incl Ryan below) for a community archive: The Photobooth Technicians Project- link in bio!
As the world goes to shit, we are all going to have to work extra hard to be consciously, deliberately and aggressively decent to each other
Thanks to the 1,600 people and organisations who responded to the UK Ministry of Justice’s proposals on the retention of wills. Good news: The UK Government has determined not to proceed with any reforms that involve the destruction of original wills

Well done everyone who responded! Great result!
I'm working on a cataloguing resource for the Digital Preservation Community Archives Toolkit (www.dpconline.org/digipres/imp...) today. If you could tell Community archives #JustOneThing about cataloguing hybrid collections, what would it be? Do you have any rules for cataloguing digitised content?
Still lot's of time to sign up and learn more about the toolkit. I'm also hoping to hear feedback from those using it!
Unsure what Business as Usual means for #DigitalPreservation?

This is a fine article on the difficulties of archival digitization.
Worth adding, that high quality text transcription also requires considerable time, investment and quality control.

This handout created by the Heritage Trust Network is one of the most useful I've seen in a long time. #CelebrateCHC
I'm at the Engine Shed in Stirling today to be a panelist at a Scotlands Community Heritage Event. #CelebrateCHC. Been asked for thoughts on a strategy that hasn't included archives or digital although it focuses on the historic environment. Should be interesting!
My next book, Averting the Digital Dark Age: How Archivists, Librarians, and Technologists Built the Web a Memory comes out in just a few weeks (December 10th!) with @hopkinspress.bsky.social. It'll be open access.
Can't wait to share it all with you.

This account will usually be digipres related, but today I am on a train to Birmingham reading this absolute banger of a book and heading to see HERE and Now, the Steps musical and I don't think I've ever been more excited!
To celebrate 2,000 BlueSky followers, I'm going to do a little giveaway.

I did a presentation for CAHG Scotland yesterday. Talking about what digital preservation is and introducing the 'Just One Thing' resource from the Digital Preservation Community Archives Toolkit. You can see the resource here, www.dpconline.org/docman/digit...
This has been a great project to work on! So pleased it's finally out there!
This toolkit released on #WDPD2024 will be really valuable for working with community archives. Simply written and accessible for groups with limited resources.
Not just professionally - I think this will be useful for informal chats about #digipres

Never thought this would be my first post on here, but due to redundancy, I am venturing back into the job market. Any archive/ digital preservation opportunities in and around Scotland? Feel free to send my way!
Love this! I am Bhangra, dad joke and food coma years old! But also, beer goggles......
