Let’s celebrate women and girls in scientific research! Often underestimated, women drive research in biomedical sciences both intellectually and at the bench. Research should be a “gender-blind” endeavor, but rarely is. Stop bigotry ! Stop unconscious bias ! Go women & girls!

Thank you Andrea! 😀
Thanks Pedro! ☺️
Happy to share the results from my PhD thesis, in which we uncovered a function for FANCD2 on maintaining fork stability upon re-replication, now out in Nat. Commun!

Thanks to everyone who supported me along the way!
Thrilled to share our latest work, just published in @nature.com ⬇

We discovered that PARP inhibitors 💊 trigger histone eviction from the chromatin and this creates a hidden vulnerability in PARPi resistant tumors.

If you are interested in pursuing a postdoc combining proteomics a genomics with functional molecular biology to study ubiquitin (-like) signaling in genome biology we are looking for candidates for the next MSCA Fellowships call!!!!
Save de date! Join us at @cabimer.bsky.social on October 17th for the @GenomaHubCSIC Workshop in "Genome Dynamics in Development and Disease". Slots available for talks! Registration opens soon!!
Delighted to share that the results of my main postdoc project are now published in @nature.com

Congratulations Andrea for such an interesting piece of work!
Excited to share our latest from my postdoc at @mskcancercenter.bsky.social in the Sfeir Lab, in collaboration with the Simon Powell Lab! We uncovered a novel genome repair mechanism in human cells: RNA-templated DNA double-strand break repair (RT-DSBR). (1/5)
Excited to see this out in @science.org today!! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
FANCX=FAAP100, new Fanconi Anemia gene
Two new papers identify 3 families with FAAP100 homozygous mutations leading to severe developmental and hematologic abnormalities leading to death in utero or in early life.

Congrats Pedro! Nice work!!
Our latest study from my postdoctoral work has just been published in Science Advances!
Grateful to my mentor and collaborators who made it possible! @buissonlab.bsky.social @ucirvine.bsky.social

The EMBO Installation Grants support life scientists establishing laboratories in Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal and Türkiye. 🧪 The application deadline is 15 April: www.embo.org/funding/fell... #ResearchFunding #LifeSciences
Delighted to share a chemical-genetic system we developed to rapidly inhibit a serine/threonine phosphatase complex (within secs). This will make it much easier to study #phosphatases. The system is also applicable to other “undruggable” enzymes.

Excited to share my first co-first author paper! We uncovered a conserved role for RAD51/BRCA2 in protecting abasic sites at replication forks from MRE11 cleavage.
#ssDNA gaps, #DNMT1, #POLθ, #Cryo-EM of #RAD51 bound to AP sites, and much more! Check it out!
Cancer cells often harbor oncogenes outside chromosomes on extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA), which is unevenly inherited by dividing cells. We reported in Nature last week that collectives of ecDNAs are inherited together by dividing cancer cells. 1/

New Lab Preprint! We show that ATR inhibition results in hyperactivation of PARP1 at replication forks, driven by APOBEC3B, UNG2, and APE1 reaction cascade targeting unprotected single-stranded DNA at the forks. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
