"Today we are witnessing the gravest violation & breakdown of international law since Second World War. As a result, peace & security are in demise.
This is why the EU’s support for the UN now is more vital than ever."

Timely discussion with @icrc.org President Spoljaric hosted by 🇪🇺 Amb Deike Potzel. Today’s preeminent global crises share a pattern: erosion of international law. The rules of war are clear: All parties must comply with IHL, protect civilians, civilian infrastructure & humanitarian personnel.

Together for health. Saving lives with science.
After decades of conflict, Afghanistan is one of the world's most most mine contaminated countries. The EU is a major donor to mine action in the world. Mine action remains key to ensure safe and unhindered humanitarian access and sustainable development. #MineAwarenessDay
#TeamEurope has a long & proud history of support for mine clearance, victim assistance, capacity building & stockpile destruction. We will continue to engage and assist victims & survivors in our efforts towards a mine-free world. #MineAwarenessDay

The #HRC61 finished yesterday.
We look back on a month of defending human rights - from Russia’s war of aggression against 🇺🇦 to the Middle East, Iran, Belarus, DPRK, Syria, Sudan, Haiti & Afghanistan, the EU took a clear stance in defending human rights for everyone, everywhere
We strongly condemn Iran’s unprovoked military strikes against countries in the region & express solidarity w/ countries affected. The 🇪🇺 calls for de-escalation and maximum restraint, the protection of civilians & civilian infrastructure and full respect of intl law, by all parties.
Russia’s disastrous war of aggression has entered its 5th year—1,500 days of brutal attacks on Ukrainian civilians to compensate for its glaring failures on the battlefield. These are war crimes & violations of the UN Charter, repeatedly condemned by the UNGA.

Regrettably, no country is immune to racism.
Combating racism requires robust public policies, an appropriate institutional framework & sustained international cooperation.
~🇪🇺Ambassador @stavroslamb.bsky.social on EU commitments to eliminate racial discrimination

Racial equality is not an aspiration reserved for some, but a right guaranteed for all. The EU contributes to the international fight against racism and has stepped up its efforts to fight it, because equality must not only be proclaimed, it must be realised.
We are happy to have hosted the future generation of European leaders 🇪🇺🌟. It was a pleasure having @coe.int students pay us a visit and answering their questions on EU diplomacy & multilateralism.
Having grown up in East Germany, Amb Deike Potzel knows what it means to live under an authoritarian regime. Today, as EU Ambassador to the UN in Geneva, she works with partners worldwide to promote and protect freedom, democracy, rule of law & human rights 🌍 #LikeAWoman
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a student group from @uantwerpen.be We discussed with them the work of the EU Delegation at the UN and how the European Union stands up for human rights, multilateral cooperation and the values of the UN Charter.

Today we celebrate 20 years since the creation of the UN Human Rights Council in 2006🎉 The EU is a steadfast supporter of @UN_HRC and an active advocate of advancing human rights, justice & dignity for all everywhere 🌍
In August 2021, the Taliban took back control in 🇦🇫. Women face unprecedented repression. They can’t go to school or work, public parks are banned to them, they are not allowed to speak loudly. What is the intl community doing? ▶️Listen to EU Ambassador Potzel’s thoughts buff.ly/oJQEJHF
Gender equality is a human right & a fundamental value of the 🇪🇺EU.
The EU welcomes #CSW70's focus on access to justice, the backbone for gender equality & empowerment of all women & girls & for ensuring their full enjoyment of all human rights.

What does gender equality mean to you?
As we celebrate International Women’s Day and kick off the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, our 🇪🇺colleagues in NY share why gender equality is important to them.

On International Women's Day our EU Ambassador Deike Potzel has a message to all young women out there: Get on board! Your voice is crucial in diplomacy, peace-building and multilateral negotiations! #WomensDay
Torture can never be justified. Yet there are still no global rules banning inherently abusive equipment. The EU calls on all States to take effective measures to prevent & prohibit the use and trade of such equipment & to join the Global Alliance for Torture-Free Trade. #HRC61
The space to defend human rights is becoming more restricted, incl through the rising use of “foreign agents” laws, global funding cuts, as well as acts of transnational repression. EU Delegations across the world engage with HRDs to uphold the legitimacy of their work. #HRC61
Many persons across the world continue to face intolerance, discrimination, hatred, persecution and violence because of their religion or belief, or lack thereof. We work both at home & internationally to uphold this right, but there still is much to do. #HRC61
The EU remains committed to the absolute prohibition of torture. States must prevent & combat torture, ensure justice and provide reparations for victims. Torture is never isolated - it thrives in contexts of war, discrimination, impunity & weak rule of law. #HRC61
Discrimination has no place in our societies.
The 🇪🇺EU is committed to protecting fundamental rights, combating discrimination and ensuring equal opportunities for all. #ZeroDiscriminationDay

Adopted✔️ four years into Russia’s full-scale invasion, overwhelming support by UNGA for resolution “Supporting lasting peace in Ukraine” calling for an immediate ceasefire and a just and lasting peace and reaffirming commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Today, the UN General Assembly votes on resolution on “Supporting lasting peace in Ukraine”.
Our objective is a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
After four years of war, 2026 must be the year the aggression on Ukraine comes to an end. The EU’s view is crystal clear: Peace must be durable, credible, and consistent with international law. We stand with Ukraine. 🇺🇦 🇪🇺
