Burial Transit registers (Bodies in Transit) | NYC Municipal Archives This collection consists of bound volumes recording burial transit permits form 1859-1894. These records were maintained by various iterations of New York City’s Health Department. In 1859, the positi...

Hi, Jan. Tangentially related, you may find this collection interesting. After 1894, burial information and transfers started to be documented on the death certificates as well as on coroner's reports. The evolution of this process is interesting.

Uncovering and learning sad stories like those you've shared about your family, are, perhaps, one of the most essential reasons that we do what we do. The fragility of life, moreover the fragility of the idea that we are even here, reminds us everyday of what matters, what is to be cherished.

We explained how that would be the hastest way, since NYS orders are abusrd. The bulk of genealogical research is ruling things out. Have you ordered the record required to rule out this very likley answer? I wouldn't want others to waste time if, in fact, you've had the answer all along.

Indeed. Cristina, as you recall, Áine and I spent several hours last July researching this for you. Áine presented you with a very likely scenario which required you to order the relevant death certificate from the county clerk in Southampton, Suffolk County. 1/2

Call me crazy, but I keep seeing Interviewer - even though that would mean a letter is missing. But it clearly starts with "Int" and there is a dotted "i" and enough there to be "iewer" for the end. Best guess.

New York state has a chance to strengthen its Freedom of Information Law and be a bright spot amid rising authoritarianism and secrecy.

That's why we're calling on the Legislature to pass four key transparency bills for Sunshine Week 2026.

Picture of quote from Lord of the Rings that reads: "For many years, at days end, I would look up … wondering what might he think if he were watching me. Would he be proud of what I’ve accomplished with his legacy? Or disappointed by the countless ways I’d failed to live up to it? But then, one night, it struck me that I would be only too happy to hear any judgment, so long as it granted me the opportunity to have but one more conversation with my father. Do not waste what time you have left with yours.”

About 4 years ago, I was quite moved by a scene and a quote on the last episode of Lord of the Rings: TheRingsofPower.

Over the weekend we had a near tragedy with my FIL, and I think perhaps it's a good time to revisit this. Time is precious. #Family #Genealogy

not really - certainly not as metaphorical.
'fare un casino' is to make a mess. So, one would say, "Allora, come siano riusciti a fare un casino di tutti cose non lo so davvero."

I thank you in return, as the expression "make such a dog’s breakfast of it" was new to me, until today. 😂

I agree with Áine. Probably AI transcription error (which often fails with even the best writing). To be clear, passenger manifests were created and written out at the point of departure, not arrival. All immigration officials did were to check off the passengers against that list.
