Our April 2025 protest took place on Yom HaShoah, a day when people who died during the #Holocaust are remembered. We said "Never again!" to #genocide as we protested the Chinese government's genocide of its #Uyghur population.

A third Uyghur we read about at our protest was Kamile Wayit, who in 2024 became one of 40 people listed by the European Parliament as unjustly imprisoned in China. She was sentenced for "advocating extremism" after sharing a video of a protest.

Another #Uyghur we read about at our protest was Elijan Ismail, a businessperson who engaged in the #Muslim practice of #zakat (making charitable contributions to those in need). For this, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for “inciting separatism.”

Gopur Abdurreshit, a prison guard, was sentenced to seven years in jail for telling other inmates about the conditions that Tohti Ilham was being kept in. Since Abdurreshit’s arrest, authorities have been monitoring his relatives.
