Three long-necked dinosaurs walk across a mudflat against the setting sun. It's lightly raining, but stormier weather is visible in the distance. The dinosaurs are seen almost in full silhouette, and crocodylian-like reptiles are barely visible in the lower right. Two of the sauropods bicker like an old married couple. It's _always_ Middle Sauropod's fault, no matter what. Poor Middle Sauropod.
Three sauropods in a windstorm, the 2015 version of my Pelorosaurus image. There are rainbows.
Three green sauropods in extremely heavy rain, as depicted in 2013. The vestige of trees can be seen behind some very heavily rendered precipitation. Less is more, 2013 Mark.
Updated some old #paleoart of Pelorosaurus for an upcoming project. The first versions of this image scarily date to 2013 and 2015.
Pelorosaurus is an Early Cretaceous British titanosauriform, but we don't know much about its proportions or appearance. Silhouettes FTW! #sciart #fossil #paleontology

A woman riding a gallimimus races through a misty hillside alongside a fellow hunter. She wears a long white robe that billows out, supplemented with leathers and feather trims. Soft clouds sweep overhead.

Result from the Pleistocene Sicily #paleostream!
This piece was a fascinating up and down to construct and to research. While certainly iconic our understanding of these faunas is not complete and misinformation and memes plaster ones way. Center of this piece...

The cover of the book "Dinosaurs: How they lived & evolved" by Darren Naish & Paul M. Barrett depicts the head and neck of a dinosaur with a crest topped by two parallel lines of short spines. It is bending forward to snack on plant. At the top is the name and logo of the Natural History Museum, and at the bottom is text indicating it is copyright by Bob Nicholls Art.

Scene from the Late Cretaceous Winton Formation in Australia. A huge Australotitan cooperensis ploughs ahead, two pterosaurs (Ferrodraco lentoni) flee the scene and a theropod (Australovenator wintonensis) is backing away. A group of Diamantinasaurus matildae observe the commotion from a distance.

the double-crested theropod dilophosaurus rests by a stream in the shade of a tree, with some slender sauropodomorphs and pterosaurs in the background, which shows a forest and a canyon. her plumage is mostly black to dark grey, with a slightly lighter underbelly, flecked throughout with lilac-white highlights. there is a ring of blue skin around her eye, and her crest is sulphur-yellow with black vertical stripes.
decked out in her breeding plumage, arizona's most eligible dilophosaurus debutante takes a much-needed rest by a stream. who knew that competing for a mate could be such an exhausting endeavour?

I've been spending a lot more time in Blender recently! Here's a Torosaurus - all movements somewhat exaggerated as I just wanted to play around with the rig and the damped motion of the tail

Illustration of a White-breasted Nuthatch creeping downward along a lichen-covered branch. This small bird has a pointy little upturned bill, white face and breast that fades to chestnut on the flanks, a charcoal gray cap and blue-gray back. Dappled sunlight illuminates its back half.

Drawing of a Saltasaurus with its back to the viewer in three-quarter view, wearing a voluminous sash around its waist, in which is stuck a profusion of swords whose hilts are carved as the heads of various dinosaurs and pterosaurs. It also wears a tricorn hat trimmed with long feathers and carries a spear.
Ol' Salty, Pirate Saltasaurus. A bit of silliness which became a personal favourite.

Watercolour illustration of a pair of armadillos in a vertically-oriented composition, with the armadillos towards the top, and the grassy environment leading the eye downward in gestural, impressionistic brushstrokes. The palette is predominantly in warm ochres and oranges.
'Everything has its proper name. I shall call it “Armadillo” till I found out the real one…’
Illustration for The Beginning of the Armadillos, from Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, published by The Folio Society, 2012.

Watercolour painting of an autumn leaf in progress. A saturated orange-red towards the upper part; bright yellow-gold towards the bottom.
Sitting in the small hours in my pyjamas, wrapped in a shawl, freezing my toes off, and painting things in red and gold while listening to Bach's Jesu, meine Freude. Why, it feels like Christmas already. 😬

Detail from a pencil drawing of Anchiornis, a small feathered paravian dinosaur from late Jurassic China. It is mostly black and white with a red head crest and pins down a small lizard with one of its feet. The drawing is small and very intricate.
Anchiornis. Detail from a drawing from 2019.
A new paper by Kiat et al indicates that Anchiornis probably couldn't fly.
(But I still think it might have been capable of 'falling with style'.)
