MARCH 20, 2026 Eric Holder Statement on Passing of Robert Mueller This is a sad day for all of us who knew and worked with Bob Mueller, the ultimate public servant, the ultimate defender of the rule of law. I had the good fortune of working with Bob at the United States Department of Justice over a good many years. We served together in the United States Attorney's office in Washington DC, at Main Justice and when he led the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I do not know a single, sentient person who actually ever worked with Bob who would express anything other than great respect for him. I am struck by the fact that at many times in his life he chose to take the more difficult path. At a time when men of privilege had the ability to avoid military service, he chose to join and ultimately was wounded as a result in Vietnam.

Similarly, when he was a partner at a major law firm, he chose to call me when I was the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia and asked to join the office so that he could prosecute homicide cases. This was at a time when Washington was the "murder capital" of the country. Bob had served as the Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division, among the most powerful positions at DOJ. He wanted to join the local U.S. Attorney's office and be treated as a line lawyer trying to help a city besieged by violence. I told him I would welcome his joining the office, but that we had to give him some kind of title given his previous service. He insisted, again, that he be treated as any other person entering the office. In this one instance, I overruled him and gave him a title somewhat commensurate with not only his abilities, but his previous position.

Ultimately, I named Bob the head of the homicide section in the U.S. Attorneys office after he had served for a number of years, prosecuting cases, protecting victims of violent crime in Washington DC and helping to make the nation's capital more safe. Later, I called upon Bob to serve as the United States attorney in San Francisco when there was the need for a new leadership in that office. Of course he agreed to do so. When I was Attorney General, I asked Bob to serve an additional two years as F.B.I. Director to ensure that that agency, which is of paramount importance to the rule of law in this country, would be served well by his continuing, able, understated leadership. Again, Bob chose to say "yes. " These were all choices. Voluntary decisions. Uniquely Bob Mueller actions. Every time this nation looked to Robert Mueller for service, for sacrifice and for love of country he agreed. He chose to do those things that made our nation not only more secure but also more just.

Bob was more than a colleague to me. He was a friend. To Anne and to his children and to his grandchildren: I want each and everyone of you to know that my heart breaks today and that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I hope that Bob Mueller's family is comforted on this sad day by the pride that those of us who served with him all feel. We were all fortunate to work with this great American. Bob made the nation better. He was the best of us. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Description This is a fully working limited edition AstroBot Joyful PS5 controller. I have connected it to my PS5 to update it and test it. It is otherwise untouched and immaculate. Now. The elephant in the room. Yes, the box looks like it has been chewed by a horse for a while. I'm honestly not sure what's happened, here, but rest assured the controller works perfectly. I will include the box, but mainly for something to wrap the cardboard packaging around. Do you ever look at something and wonder what happened? Like taking a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and you see your father staring back at you, even though it feels like you were only in your twenties a couple of years ago? The strange sort of shock of vertiginous horror as you realise that something has happened, and you can't quite get your mind around what it was? That's pretty much how I feel about the box. The controller works a treat, though.

Do you have less respect for your own nature than the engraver does for engraving, the dancer for the dance, the miser for money or the social climber for status? When they're really possessed by what they do, they'd rather stop eating and sleeping than give up practicing their arts. Is helping others less valuable to you? Not worth your effort?

NETFLIX Australia, for example, earned $1.2bn in revenue but had no taxable income at all. Oil and gas giant Santos marked the 10th year in a row it paid zero company tax. You know what really feels different? It's boring. Australian politics is beautifully, exquisitely, delightfully boring. It is boring in the way it used to be back home - sane, predictable, restrained, broadly rational, and consisting mostly of retail offers to voters rather than screeching rhetoric about identity and culture war. If I worked here, I would have a less interesting career and I mean that in the best possible way. The success of pundits and bloggers is inversely proportionate to the wellbeing of a society. If they're having a good and interesting time it generally means everyone else is getting fucked. Australia, almost alone among Western countries, has not really given populism room to breath. In the general election last year, a salivating imbecile of a man named Peter Dutton used his position as leader of the centre-right Liberal party to try and bring MAGA-style politics to Australia. In response, Australia handed him his arse. His party experienced a landslide defeat. He lost his seat. Populism was repudiated.

Logan Casey, director of policy research at the Movement Advancement Project, an LGBTQ think tank that tracks legislation, described these broader laws as "gender regulation laws" that attack the fundamental rights and identity of trans people. "The point all along for the people pushing these bills and these attacks has been to single out transgender people and create a license to discriminate against transgender people and remove them from public life," he said. The IC assesses Iran's prospects for reconstituting force losses and posing a credible deterrent, particularly to Israeli actions, are dim in the near-term. Iran has fielded a large quantity of ballistic and cruise missiles as well as UAVs that can strike throughout the region and continues efforts to improve their accuracy, lethality, and reliability. Iran's defense industry has a robust development and manufacturing capacity, especially for low-cost weapons such as small UAVs. However, the limited damage Iran's strikes in April and October 2024 inflicted on Israel highlights the shortcomings of Iran's conventional military options.

As for would have, I "did" for Iraq and would love to get to the Ghan. Small wars are pretty enjoyable. It's the big ones, with days of artillery fire and inhuman brutality that take the fun out of fighting. But small wars (and Iraq and Afghanistan are indeed small wars) provide the rush of small combat actions along with the intellectual challenge of building personal relationships and infrastructure within the local community. Small wars are thinking wars, which I much prefer over the bloody slugfests of great power conventional warfare. Oh, and the revolution, because I'm Amuuurican. permalink context
