#WorldArtDay here's a painting depicitng the 6th Battalion, South Wales Borderers at the Battle for the Arakan Tunnels in Burma on the 25th March 1944. The artist was Private Archie Jones, who took part in the battle and who was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery during the action. #WW2

#OTD 1884, William Fuller VC was born in Carmarthenshire. Serving with the Welsh Regiment in #WW1, he earned the VC for rescuing Captain Haggard under heavy fire near Chivy, 14/09/14. He was later wounded, returned to the UK and went on to serve in the Home Guard during #WW2.
For #Nationalpuppyday here’s a lovely photo of little jack russell Ken keeping watch in a trench during #WW1. He belonged to Lt. Aldworth, 2nd Battalion, Welsh Regiment and this photograph was taken at his dug out at Neuve Chappelle in 1915.

It’s #StPatricksDay so we thought we’d share a famous Irish member of our Regiment - Patrick Cleburne. He enlisted in the Welsh Reg in 1846 but emigrated to America and joined the Confederate Army. He become Brigadier General but was killed in action leading his troops on November 30th, 1864.
#MedalMonday this small, but perfectly formed, Victoria Cross and South Africa Medal belonged to Pte Henry Hook VC, 24th Regiment of Foot. Hook received the Victoria Cross for his gallantry at Rorke’s Drift on the 22nd January 1879, during the Anglo-Zulu War. #medal #VC #gallantry #history

#Whatisitwednesday? This fantastic artefact is actually a piece of trench art – a lampshade made from a #WW1 German shell. It was made in Mesopotamia in 1918 and was brought back as a souvenir to the UK by a soldier of the South Wales Borderers.

#OTD 1917 Lt Col A J H Bowen DSO, 2nd Bn, Mons Reg, was killed in action. Wounded badly in 1915, but fought on earning himself the DSO. Mentioned in despatches 3 times and later awarded a bar to his DSO. He died aged 31, and is buried at Guard’s Cemetery, Combles, France. #WW1 #FirstWorldWar

#Blackandwhitewednesday pic and discharge papers of Pte Alfred John Biggs which show he enlisted in the Welsh Regiment in 1890 aged 14! He was discharged after the Boer War in 1902 but re-enlisted in 1914. He was injured in France in 1916 and left the army aged 39 years and 8 months. #WW1
It’s #InternationalWarAnimalDay, a time to honour the role animals have played in conflicts throughout history. The purple poppy commemorates all animals who served, suffered, and died in war. Draught horses Bill and Jean left the UK for France in 1914 and served throughout #WW1 with the SWB.

#FlashbackFriday to Malaya in 1956. Men of the South Wales Borderers pose with their Sarawak Ranger guides. Local knowledge was vital in the dense jungles. British and Commonwealth troops worked closely with local soldiers throughout the 12-year conflict.
