The first US census noting immigrants’ places of origin was in 1850, and it would record nearly 30,000 people born in Wales. All of these would’ve spoken Welsh, and many of them raised their American children speaking Welsh✍️ Jerry Hunter wp.me/p8Mk4U-1jvx

A close-up of a gravestone carving. Carved lilies, roses, marigolds and ferns, above the lettering 'in loving memory of'. The rest of the lettering has worn away.

Was early to Meeting today, so I paid a visit to the lovely neighbouring graveyard at St. Mary's, Bridgend. Spring flowers rioting everywhere, three huge yew trees, and this lovely gravestone caught my eye. The name is sadly lost, but the carved flowers are beautiful.

The Raven's Bowl beside an ancient track in the hills above Llangollen, North Wales. Probably the base of a medieval wayside cross but it's unknown what happened to the cross itself. The hollow socket forms the 'bowl' of its romantic name.

Final part of Y Gododdin, one of the oldest epic poems in the Welsh language (Cymraeg), written in my modified version of Iolo Morgannwg's Coelbren y Beirdd. A fun project which took me over a month to finish.

One of the oldest tales of King Arthur is the hunt of the giant boar Twrch Trwyth, found in the sotry of Culhwch and Olwen.
Less remembered are the boar's piglets, though. They were every bit as brutal as the older boar, killing all but one of the hunters sent after them.

‘Miserable wretch,’ he said, ‘you do not deserve to receive a blessing, and it won’t be of any use to you seeing that you are wearing armour on a day as exalted as this.’
