It's happening again (already an issue in the #urban #heat literature: arxiv.org/abs/2509.16568).
#DataCenters can definitely create #heatislands, but using #satellite data would significantly overestimate the public health implications of it.
Also, can we not have news articles on #preprints?

This is seasonal appointment with the USGS in Lakewood CO. The position will be working on studies related to calibrating and testing field sensors - primarily on studies related to monitoring Monarch butterfly movement, and measuring heat in urban areas.
3. A paper I’ve been working on since grad school (started in 2019!) with @jenerette.bsky.social. Main takeaway: urban vegetation-derived cooling increases in future climates. But it still won’t be enough to overcome overall warming in extreme climate scenarios. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...
2: Our commuter heat paper. Big takeaway: Let's get "human-oriented" in our heat studies! Shade, tree canopy, and stop orientation really matter in identifying how commuters experience heat. Revealing strong inequities in exposure. With @priyankadesouza.bsky.social iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...
1: My monarch paper, a relatively new research field for me. One takeaway: overwintering monarch abundance is shaped not just by climate, but by density dependence and specific habitat selection, down to particular trees. It was a fun milestone month for me, so much so that I made a BlueSky account to share the news!
3 papers out, spanning monarchs, commuter heat exposure, and urban vegetation cooling under climate change. Feels like a nice snapshot of the different directions my research has been growing.
🦋Ibsen et al found that density dependence and habitat selection affect overwintering abundance of #monarch butterflies at regional and site scales in #California.🦋 Learn more at doi.org/10.1111/csp2...
