CIPRES is shutting down at the end of June: www.phylo.org .

It's been such a good resource for the phylogenetics community. Thanks to #NSF and Simons for funding it and for all the people who have worked to grow and sustain this for so long.

Why scientists are nervous about fungi They can pose a threat to human health โ€” yeast infections are but one example. Scientists say not enough attention is paid to their ability to develop resistance to medications that treat them.

As one of the few naturalized citizens to serve in Congress, it is difficult to constantly listen to the anti-immigrant rhetoric coming from Republicans.

The reality is that immigrants contribute so much to our communities. I'm grateful to everyone who understands that.

Opinion | A Stunning New Verdict Rewrites the Rules of Corporate Morality

Lafarge, one of the world's largest cement makers, and two executives were found criminally liable for financing terrorism in Syria by knowingly paying terrorist groups to keep their plant running.

I hope this sets a precedent for holding fossil fuel companies liable for climate change.

We found this amazing earwig at a bug light last night. This one is a male, they typically have larger pincers. There is not much info available about the genus so I'm not sure why he has those strange protrusions from his abdomen.

Lab grown smoked salmon on bagels with cream cheese now!

Hype cycles and haters aside, cell ag the single coolest food technology and I really badly want it to succeed.

A climate activist and a gas executive walk into a bar โ€” Outside/In How a first-in-the country geothermal project brought a pair of unlikely allies together.

Electric heat pumps are the main way to outgrow air and climate pollution from burning fossil fuels to heat buildings. Air-source heat pumps are the most cost-effective technology in most settings today, but in the coldest, densest cities, networked geothermal heat pumps may make sense. Quick๐Ÿงต

A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)

More context on this #Artemis II image:

* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right

* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:
