Six Layers (and Knowing When to Stop) Since October, I’ve been working on a monthly process, painting a large canvas, then covering it over to begin again. It’s intentional. Each layer represents a feeling or experience, painted over by the next, like life, where so much sits beneath the surface. Some months I returned the canvas to white; others I worked straight over what was there. Each layer has taken on a different style, reflecting both the moment and how I’ve changed over time.

Falmouth: Wind, Water, and Space to Think In March, I took myself off to Falmouth for a week. I’d never been before, and it felt somehow much further away than it really is. I went by train, which slowed everything down in a good way. No rushing, no driving, just watching the amazing landscape change. Falmouth itself felt full of contrast, wide skies, shifting weather, soft sandy coves one moment and rugged, rocky edges the next.

Fear convinces us that control is the answer. But control is an illusion—grasping only tightens fear’s hold. The way through is not in figuring it out, but in surrendering to what is. —Amoda Maa #Fear #Control #Illusion #Surrender #PersonalGrowth

I was out for my morning meander when I heard a clamour of rooks, and looked up... an effervescence of nature...

Inspiration from the Tarot:

"Giving and Receiving"

I give as relaxed presence,
I receive as truth.
Love flows both ways through me,
Neither grasped nor lost.
In this balanced exchange,
I remain whole,
And gently become.

Control is an illusion, agency is not.
Control attempts to shape what is outside you.
Agency shapes how you meet what is inside and outside you.

In an enchanted forest, illuminated by pastel blues, greens, yellows and reds, a giant hand reaches up to grasp the full moon as it hangs, suspended in the sky, just beyond the tallest branches. Photographed by Magusian.

I open in spacious awareness,
wide enough for mystery,
steady enough for fear.

I breathe: the unknown softens;
I expand & remain whole.

Love holds my centre.
Truth shapes clarity.
Agency lives in my next step.

I am the space that welcomes all I feel,
I am the one who chooses,
presence responding.

Strength as Inner Compassion

Held in my own quiet light,
I let the softest feelings rise.
No reason, no demand,
only warmth,
only presence.
I am the Strength that holds the trembling child,
and The Star that shines through the tears.

When ego stirs, it is only the echo
of a child once left alone.
I meet it with presence.
I meet it with breath.
And in this silence,
The echo softens,
Not shattered, but seen.
Illusions dissolve,
In awareness,
In truth.
And I walk forward as wholeness,
Unafraid of the spaces
where nothing is known.

Reflections on #Liminality, the place where #Awareness hosts #Paradox as #Witness

In the stillness between, I rest.
Awareness holds all opposites in grace.
Darkness and light breathe as one.
Knowing and unknowing dance in truth.
I am the space between,
The living threshold of becoming.

The #Liminal #Spirit

With an open heart,
I see what is,
And recognise
Myself.
I am: the Spaciousness, the Liminal,
The space betwixt and between.
I am: the No–Thing–ness, between all things;
Because I am, the space
In which all things exist.
Awareness seeing,
Recognising, knowing;
Self as Truth. 道

Serendipity and the Art of Letting Go This week’s word is serendipity - those happy accidents that seem to find you when you’re not looking. The word itself comes from an old Persian tale about three princes who kept stumbling upon discoveries by chance, guided by curiosity and awareness rather than control. In my art, serendipity feels like the moment a drip lands perfectly, or a colour I didn’t plan suddenly makes the whole piece sing.

Not everything needs to be understood….. Not everything needs to be understood. Some things are meant to be felt and experienced. My word of the week has been mystery. Etymology & history of “mystery” From Latin mysterium → from Greek mystērion (plural mystēria) = “a secret rite, a hidden truth known only to the initiated.” Related to mystēs (“one who has been initiated”) and myein (“to close the eyes or lips”), suggesting secrecy or silent knowing.

My Word of the Week: Curiosity As part of my Creative Hug, I have a word a week to inspire my art. This week, I’m doing everything with curiosity - in my drawings, my walks, daily life. I have enjoyed learning the etymology of "curiosity". Historically, curious took quite a journey. In medieval times, it was almost an insult - suggesting nosiness or meddling in things best left alone, especially divine mysteries.

Another tick off my bucket list! Dawn at Avebury today. It couldn't have been more beautiful and special with the sky and the mist. Amazing experience.

"Before all knowing, I am the clear spring,
Pure, playful, fearless.
Love is my shelter, truth my companion;
Together they shape the Way.
The waters clear as the mud settles,
And I rise, flowing forward in trust."

"I rest in openness until knowing arises."

In my becoming,
I am no longer the one who “knows”,
I am, one who is,
and whose knowing arises from being.

I don't know where this quote comes from, but I see the words as being useful to reflect on: "Life is strange. You arrive with nothing, spend your whole life chasing everything, and still leave with nothing. Make sure your soul gains more than your hands." #Truth #Wisdom #PersonalGrowth #Nothing

"I walk with the Old Ways in my heart and the Flow in my step.
In the stillness of my own embrace, sadness softens,
and truth blends with imagination in the cauldron of my soul.
I am presence becoming wholeness;
I am the Way, and the Way moves with me."

A view from beyond the bend of a river in the Norfolk Broads. On the inside of the bend, to the left, are moored a small cabin cruiser and a sailing boat. A wind pump or mill can be seen by an inlet, just beyond the bend and to the right. Dark clouds subdue the overall lighting, however the sun breaks through from above. Photograph by Magusian.

Chinese proverb: “When the winds of change blow, some build walls. Others build windmills.” Ask yourself: "What am I building?" and then answer honestly. Change is the only constant; we arise from the unknown and live a life filled with change —before entering the unknowable. #PersonalGrowth #Truth

Ask, "Who am I? Am I living, or am I performing?" Then act on the honest answers, or you'll carry the weight of knowing you didn’t. “In any given moment we have two options: step forward into growth or step back into safety.” —Maslow... Life is wasted by doing the wrong things for too long. #Truth
