Don't worry, when I'm not here being melodramatic about my first dog, I'm enjoying the company of my second and third dogs. 😌

Everything you did was so new and precious and fascinating. I loved to discover that you had preferences. You loved plushies with squeakers, but you despised the spiky balls. You loved the sun, and drinking from the tub faucet. You loved Starbucks cold foam, salmon skin, ... rolling on dead things.

Black cocker spaniel Majima stands in a lovely expanse of short, bright green grass that's rather dense with weeds and wild greens. He's facing the photographer, who appears to be the one holding the leash that goes out of frame on the bottom left. There's a well-defined shadow stretching the same direction. Majima looks incredibly charming, and quite happy.

I wish I'd captured those moments, at the far end of the empty dog park, when you'd realize that obeying the command, "go get Mama!" meant you'd be rewarded with a bit of bacon, egg & cheese bagel. We didn't know you could run like that until that game; I see it when I conjure you at your happiest.

Our love language is #frustration. Sighs and side eyes, thrown across the kitchen island where an unwashed bowl has sat for a week, cereal dregs inside turned to concrete. It wasn't me. I know it wasn't me. I think. Eventually one of us will wash it and, out of love, never mention it again.
