Dr. Jim Estes made a huge positive impact on ecology and my way of thinking. I am saddened to hear about his passing. Reading Serendipity and thinking of his experiences while sampling kelp forests and urchin barrens across the Aleutian Archipelago will always be a highlight of my life.
