Sometimes life is hard;
being disabled is hard
being a lone parent is hard
being an adopter is hard
being a parent of teens with SEND is hard
being the parent of teens with MH struggles is hard
being with profs who don’t understand the impact of trauma is hard

Starter pack for those wanting to link up with care-experienced families
On SNJ Today: "A situation where we are upholding nearly 100% of complaints cannot be one that's working for children & their families," says the Ombudsman. She's also asking for powers to investigate complaints about schools. Matt Keer asks, will the government listen? www.specialneedsjung...
Interesting!
This looks very interesting. I’m going to be getting it for sure
I can’t lie, my life is totally different to how I’d thought it would be. My girls still have troubles in their mid-teens. But we are still a family and I hope that will count for something in their future lives. Always here if you need any support or advice. Or even a hug xx
Pretty much every trauma survivor I've ever worked with has been a highly sensitive soul existing in a highly complicated physical situation-- including their body, their housing or living situation, their economic circumstances, & their medical status. For starters.
A teen girl watching a concert in a silver dress
A teen girl looking out over a lake. She’s sitting on stone steps and wearing black.
Not flesh of my flesh, Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously my own.
Never forget for a single minute,
You didn’t grow under my heart, but in it
Toddler girls in summer dresses and sun hats near a pond
Two little girls in summer dresses playing in a sandpit
Two girls sitting on a pebble beach looking at the ground. The sun is shining and making the sea shimmer
Two teenage girls standing at the back of a crowd in the dark. They are watching a light show in front of the crowd
13 yrs ago today my girls came home to live with me. At times I’ve thought we wouldn’t make it to this day as a family. It is not the life I was expecting but I can’t regret it. I love my beautiful girls so much that it hurts sometimes 1/2

I want to sing the praises of well trained care-workers.
A new PA took me shopping this morning. I’ve been a hermit lately, avoiding going where there are people. I had fun getting bits & bobs for the girls. Amazing what a great PA can help me achieve, not achieve for me #carers #disability
Feel free to join in our new care experienced starter pack and follow me. So much lived experienced of every ‘disadvantage’ possible round my house 🙄
I just tried to do this, but apparently I need a minimum of eight of accounts to set off a starter pack. So ... any more willing volunteers to be in the "first release" so I can get us up and running?

AuDHD disabled lone transracial adopter to AuDHD teens with developmental trauma disorder.
Living on a low income. Teens classed as Child in Need.
One teen in EOTAS and one at an indie ASD school.
We tick every box going!
Black cat on top of a grey cat tree, lying on a bed at the top
Black cat lying on a settee on a cream blanket and facing the camera
Black cat with head leaning to the left looking at the camera. He is lying on someone’s knee
Here is pet number 3 Benji. Benji is another Cyprus rescue, is 2 yrs old like Bonnie, and has permanent brain damage. It means he always looks a little startled, his head leans to the left and he is deliciously squidgy and soft. He is another ex street kitten and we adore him.
Haha I wish! She was such a great character, in Downton and out
How did you get on at JR? I think we are going to end up there too
One day, when our circumstances change, I will do this for someone else. Such a wonderful idea
I’ll never forget you doing this for my eldest daughter over on X and she ended up with about 20 new books. It made her year - she treasures all of them. You are a diamond
Or a lack of decent focused provision in mainstream schools?
Crikey I think I need to watch all of this. I wonder which 67%? I can’t imagine it’s SEND parents. And the autistic comment I find offensive in the extreme
Row of four old fashioned servant bells mounted on a wall.
Living in my house is like reverse Downton Abbey. We live in relative poverty but I have 3 extra adults in the house right now. A PA for me & a shift change between tutor and LSA for Eldest 17 who is EOTAS. I’m bedridden today & use Alexa rather than a bell to summon support or speak to the “staff”
Sally’s books are usually a great read. I’ll look forward to getting this one
Photo of a white and black cat and a black cat lying on top of someone’s legs in bed. A dog with a navy blue onesie with red hearts on it sleeps next to them
No heating upstairs at home but I am being treated to a pet blanket this morning. Can’t complain. I’m lovely and warm in bed
Who is this speaking? It really is ridiculous
East Midlands. I know lots of adopters and foster carers in real life. We have a large and active peer support group. Interested to meet relevant people on here too
Very true. Thought that’s what was meant
Yes! Do it :)
