Last year's visitor, a Broadtailed Hummingbird [Selasphorus platycercus] female was perched on the stem of a bright red Crocosmia crocosmiiflora in full bloom. Two Collared Lizards [Crotaphytus collaris] in full breeding colors; vibrant aqua-green with yellow spots. This is the spectacular natural phenomenon known as the Qiantang River tidal bore in China, known as the "Silver Dragon." It's the world's largest tidal wave, formed by the incoming tide in the funnel-shaped bay, creating a massive, surging wall of water up to 30 feet high.

An adult javelina/peccary, a wild pig, cuddles up to two juveniles napping in the sunshine at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. She has been grooming the immature in the middle of the threesome and now rubbing against the its rump while they nap. A pile of pigs!
