Last year's visitor, a Broadtailed Hummingbird [Selasphorus platycercus] female was perched on the stem of a bright red Crocosmia crocosmiiflora in full bloom. The female is facing the camera showing her bright rusting colored breast with white speckled throat, feeding on the nectar of the flowers. Long green narrow leaves poke up all around behind her.
