Our 2026 Events Programme has been published and should have found its way to all our members' inboxes this week. If you aren't on the mailing list, do sign up via our pages on the DERC website. We look forward to seeing you in the field soon!
Sometimes when we are botanising we can forget to look up! Which would be a shame as #treeflowers are both fascinating & beautiful! This week’s challenge is to go looking for wild & naturalised trees that are blooming. Share your finds for #WildflowerHour this Sunday 8-9pm!
Wood forget me not, musk stork's bill, Greater Periwinkle, red dead nettle, common Field Speedwell, red Clover
My final 6 so of flower for this week (taking me to 25) added some lovely rich colours to my collection - the deep blue of the Wood Forget-me-not was quite stunning.
Really looking forward to next week's #wildflowerhour challenge.

A few of the 14 species found in flower today at Tidmoor Point, Weymouth. Also, as a bonus - a Little Egret seen in one of the channels. 1.1.26 New Year Plant Hunt
What fun to take part in the #NewYearPlantHunt again. Keen to see how my walks this year compare to my finds last year.
For Day 1, I walked my local loop - 14 species found in flower today. Such a lovely walk along the Fleet with plenty to enjoy including a bonus Little Egret in one of the channels.
I didn’t go on a plant hunt for the #newyearplanthunt but I did check out Dorchester’s only Mistletoe tree a Rowan on an industrial estate) and I have never seen such prolifically berried Mistletoes.
We're looking forward to the #BSBI #NewYearPlantHunt and there's 3 group hunts registered in Dorset if you'd like to join us.

At Wild Woodbury nature reserve, a major wetland restoration project is transforming drained farmland into a thriving, natural river system. Read our blog to find out how this work is helping to restore Dorset’s wetlands and boost biodiversity. 👉 bit.ly/3WJikQE ~ Jack

Cheating slightly for this week's #Fruits challenge...
I attended a brilliant walk with @dorsetflora.bsky.social which tuned me in to looking more closely at Clovers.
Well, my new favourite is Strawberry Clover so thought I'd share, as I just love these little spiky orbs.
