For my #BirdOfTheDay I’m posting this immature #Herringgull for the #openwing prompt. It’s a nice reminder for me that although we’re still buried deep in snow, we’ve got hot July temps and #shorebirds to look forward to.

A pair of duck are tipped with their front halves under water while foraging. We see two white bellies topped with black tails and featuring four bright orange legs, but no feet. Those too are tucked under the cold, still water. Brownish winter reeds can be seen in the background.

Mature Great Blue Heron wades in the water while looking for a meal. It is a large, long-necked bluish gray bird with white and black accents and a long sharp bill- great for snatching little fish from the shallows.

We had a delightful, albeit frosty, time at #EdwinBForsytheNationalWildlifeRefuge. This wonderful Great Blue Heron is my #BirdOfTheDay for the theme #waterwings.

Love those speckles of color!
