At the bottom left edge is a female Mallard noted for its intricate pattern of light and dark brown feathers. At the centre right is a male Mallard, with its green head and yellow bill.
A lone female Bufflehead was visiting the small pond at Lelem Park, which usually hosts about 15 - 20 Mallards and 6 Wood Ducks.

Male mallard duck, with feathers missing at base of his neck, the result of mating battles with other male ducks.
Douglas, 1 year ago, almost to the day, while still in the throes of forming his thruple. It took some doing, and the loss of most of his breast feathers. But they've all grown back, & the 3some has lasted so far. Doug's bigger than the other male, he doesn't seem to be the dominant one.

A mallard mother is seen nesting among a cavity in the roots of an oak tree 3 days ago.
The nest.
Mallard mom was able to take an extended break from incubating her eggs to feed and bathe 🧘🏾. Freezing temperatures are done for us.
