A reddish egret up to its real heels in a pond. It is striding through the water, its head turned to give me a baleful glare with its white eyes. Its body is blue-grey but its long neck and head are rusty red with a feather fringe cascading down its neck. Its beak is long and thin and red on the back half with black on the front half.

A nest full of fluffy grey bird parts with an occasional sprouting of orange feathers, yellow beaks, and black eyes. Although it is rather difficult to distinguish between where one chick ends and another begins, there are four North American robins residing in this nest. There was a rather horrendous heat wave going on at the time which I doubt made the increasingly close quarters any more comfortable.

A very polite Pārera (Grey Duck, or Greylard-grey duck + mallard hybrid) looking right at me, enquiring as to his fair share of morning tea. His webbed feet are right at the edge of the striped picnic blanket that's been set out on the grass - how respectful! Thing is, I didn't know to expect extra company for said tea 😆 He and his missus (off camera) got a few nibbles regardless 😇🪿 "Grey ducks are uniformly darkish brown with most feathers edged with a paler buff. The crown is almost black, and the face a clean cream crossed with two sharply-defined black stripes, one extending from the bill through the eye to link to the dark crown, the other from the gape and extending across the lower face and beyond the eye. The bill is leaden grey with a black nail, legs khaki, and the eye dark brown. The upper wing is brown, with the speculum (on the trailing edge of the inner wing) an iridescent green with a trailing narrow white band (and no anterior band). The underwing is white.
