You're anything but alone...
Hey, I watched Star Trek...
Remember the black goo?
The Austrian version would be "Watschengesicht". You're welcome to use it.

Yesterday, we took microscopy to a whole new level! π¬ Nexperion visited a local kindergarten to explore the amazing microcosmos with the next generation of scientists. Did not succeed to install #SerialEM on this microscope, though.
Bot fail
Any scikit-image fans in Vienna? The skimage team would like to meet in Vienna for a code sprint Aug 14-16 ahead of EuroSciPy. We'd super appreciate it if someone's workplace can host us! All we need is electricity, natural light, and (most important) walking distance to coffee. βοΈππ
Have a great time here! Looks like ACV?
What what?! The rotation axis or the tilt axis is not centered? (Spending significant time with diffraction people recently who sometimes refer to tilting as "rotation", so I am in a permanent state of confusion ...)
A map of Europe ... Czechia is labelled with "non-optical microscopes"
A map of European countries with the product they were the world's #1 exporter of in 2023 (found on Reddit, source unknown) ... if this is correct, I am really proud of our Czech neighbours (while Austria is exporting "flavoured water"?!).
#SerialEM SetStageBAxis script command might allow any angle.

Technically not a gif, but...
In a you're, maybe?
... while I am still wondering about the offer to head a swine breeding facility in China, years ago. But obviously, a "group leader" is "group leader" and a "facility" is a "facility". π
SPACEtomo v1.2 is online! github.com/eisfabian/SP...
- Improved GUIs for lamella detection, target selection and CLEM registration make it the best target selection workflow for PACEtomo on any kind of lamella sample.
- Easier installation and configuration
Any feedback is much appreciated! :)
The #SerialEM source repositories are now available on github, in addition to Mercurial: bio3d.colorado.edu/SerialEM/#So...
I am already running a service to notify about new #SerialEM releases by email at nexperion.net/serialemupdatenotices, but considering to make this a Bluesky bot as well ... is this something the #teamtomo #cryoEM #cryoET community would be interested in?
Repost appreciated:
Open #PhDposition in my group! Join us in UmeΓ₯, πΈπͺ to uncover how arboviruses remodel the cellular interior. In situ #cryoET with great #virology and #biophysics collaborators. Customisable project.
Application deadline 15 December. More info:

Better late than never: no more excuses for losing essential #SerialEM configuration files - a video tutorial explaining file types, backup and restore strategies is now online at vimeo.com/1023251181
The first of a series of new #SerialEM tutorial videos is online - Autocontouring of Grid Squares. π Let us know what you think and what topics you would like to see covered in the future!
The Multiple Grid Operations Interface in front of an autocontoured grid
Last week's release of #SerialEM beta testing introduces "Multiple Grid Ops", an interface to auto acquire grid maps, square maps, and final data from multiple grids in a row using TFS/JEOL autoloaders - for details see bio3d.colorado.edu/SerialEM/bet..., feedback from early adopters is welcome!
Could one of my friends using #SerialEM share a full grid montage of a "typical" cryo SPA grid (including broken squares, thick ice, thin ice, ...). I'd need the nav and the mrc file to run some tests ...
