The bottom trawling ban off Sussex is working! 🌊

5 years on, kelp is recovering, mussel beds stretch over 1km, and black sea bream are returning 🐟🌿🦪

Proof that when we remove destructive fishing, the ocean can bounce back 💙

Great fun on the Whitehorse, Yukon #ChristmasBirdCount today... warmed up to -32C, so no worries! 12 species in my zone, and at least 5 more that I know of counted by others. We'll end up with a total in the mid twenties as usual, I am sure! Will update when I know more... 1/2

It's been a long wait but an advance copy of 'Grasshoppers' has finally arrived. It's been worth the wait with excellent printing

Happy birders!

Happy birders!

A carload of somewhat crazy birders drove to the beautiful little town of #WatsonLake, #Yukon today to see the female #EurasianBullfinch that has been visiting a feeder there... First record for Canada! (that wasn't an escaped cage bird) #birds #listers

Bafflingly there are still people out there in the world who think being passionate about nature is “kind of weird”. or “a niche interest”. These people have it all wrong. Nature isn’t some quirky sideline to the main business. It IS the main business.

Thanks Guy evocative photos. I went to school nearby in the 1960s and we were fortunate to have nature study lessons here. In spring it would be alive with the sound of Cuckoos, Warblers, Nightingales and Yellow Wagtails. I was also taken to see breeding Cirl Buntings at nearby Houghton in 1965.

Very misleading, and more sleight of hand by a bus company, I gave up driving nearly a year ago and public transport has been a real learning curve. I spend a lot of journeys hoping I have the appropriate ticket for the route and destination without incurring a penalty fare.
