Senior professors - if you want to help your junior colleagues in these times, I am begging you, review our papers. I have done 25 manuscript reviews in the last 6 years. But my own manuscript is stalled out waiting for reviewers. Relatedly, I won't be doing any more reviews until tenure. 🧪

Congratulations Falk! Thats a major newPI milestone!
It was about time...
Cancer Research UK is fed up of paying too much for open access publishing so they are completely stopping funding this activity:

I really wish Wellcome and UKRI would follow the lead of CRUK!
70 yo insomniac here, this is a great start but we must also drop the glam pub reward effects during critical evaluation of researchers for promotion and research support.
It's easier to get off the glam train once you've arrived. Alternative transportation is necessary.

Presenting our exciting discovery of pointed end elongation at the Indian Organelle Biology meeting!
Golgi organization is altered on loss of adhesion. Axl inhibition leads to AMPK activation that controls golgi organization through Arf1 activation. Shared talk w/ student Vaishnavi Raut who presents link between autophagy & golgi organization. Nagaraj Balasubramanian, IISER Pune #OBMT26
The luminal domain (LD) region of Seipin/Fld1 is dispensable for lipid droplet biogenesis & function. Fld1-∆LD has gain of function activity but the LD is imp for TAG levels in the cell. Amit Khatri, Vineet Choudhary lab, AIIMS-New Delhi #OBMT26
So excited to have been awarded the ASCB COMPASS Outreach Grant for our proposal of “Beyond the Data” 🔬 The Aiken Lab will host a community-wide Graduate Science-Art Showcase & Reception in downtown Fort Collins, coming soon!🎉 @aikenlab.bsky.social @ascbiology.bsky.social

Stentor is a unicellular species, but it has been known to aggregate into short-lived groups to feed more efficiently.

This is an awesome discovery:
A single-celled organism with no brain called Stentor seems capable of Pavlovian learning. Yes, it can actually learn to associate two things despite having no neurons.

Cytoplasmic crowding acts as a porous medium that hinders macromolecular diffusivity.
Plus: a clever way to measure cell volume.

Mark your calendars, the Signaling by Adhesion Receptors GRC is June 7 - 12, 2026. We have a terrific program that balances developmental biology, cell polarity, and adhesion and signaling.
Please spread the word!
