Senior professors - if you want to help your junior colleagues in these times, I am begging you, review our papers. I have done 25 manuscript reviews in the last 6 years. But my own manuscript is stalled out waiting for reviewers. Relatedly, I won't be doing any more reviews until tenure. 🧪

Why we won’t be funding open access publishing any more - Cancer Research UK - Cancer News The open access movement was bold and promising, but ultimately disappointing. Now is the time to stop and call for a new way to make publishing work…

Cancer Research UK is fed up of paying too much for open access publishing so they are completely stopping funding this activity:

70 yo insomniac here, this is a great start but we must also drop the glam pub reward effects during critical evaluation of researchers for promotion and research support.

It's easier to get off the glam train once you've arrived. Alternative transportation is necessary.

Golgi organization is altered on loss of adhesion. Axl inhibition leads to AMPK activation that controls golgi organization through Arf1 activation. Shared talk w/ student Vaishnavi Raut who presents link between autophagy & golgi organization. Nagaraj Balasubramanian, IISER Pune #OBMT26

The luminal domain (LD) region of Seipin/Fld1 is dispensable for lipid droplet biogenesis & function. Fld1-∆LD has gain of function activity but the LD is imp for TAG levels in the cell. Amit Khatri, Vineet Choudhary lab, AIIMS-New Delhi #OBMT26

Multicellular life may have begun with brief alliances between cells Single-celled organisms called Stentor can feed more efficiently by pairing up, illustrating a possible stage in the evolution of complex life forms

Stentor is a unicellular species, but it has been known to aggregate into short-lived groups to feed more efficiently.

Single-celled organism with no brain is capable of Pavlovian learning A trumpet-shaped, single-celled organism seems able to predict one thing will follow another, hinting that such associative learning emerged long before multicellular nervous systems

This is an awesome discovery:
A single-celled organism with no brain called Stentor seems capable of Pavlovian learning. Yes, it can actually learn to associate two things despite having no neurons.
