Interview tomorrow. I wonder how much better life would be if interviews were over coffee or something... A relaxed setting, where everything isn't maximally stilted. You don't have to chat like hitting quicktime events in a video game, you can just sit there and talk like two real people.

Rounding the corner on this new #embroidery.
An embroidery hoop containing a sewn aerial view landscape. It depicts an apple orchard in bloom in the centre, allotments to the left and sheep in their field at the bottom. Train tracks go past the top of the orchard and allotment.
Sewn train tracks past an apple orchard (to the left).
An angled view of a sewn vegetable allotment surrounded by rough land, trees and with train tracks to the left.
An angled view of embroidered bushes and paths going through them leading to an orchard, allotment and fields.
'A simple (perfect) life' - my spring landscape is finally finished! An apple orchard in bloom, old railway, sheep with their lambs and an allotment being prepared for growing :) Zoom in to see all the other tiny details too... I think this might be my favourite aerial embroidery I've ever done!
Gorgeous!!
Enormous waste of time for everyone involved
That's such an awesome idea!!! I can imagine it being very soothing in a therapy setting. Glad to hear you're leaning into that!
It's silly, but something about punching a needle into fabric over and over is so meditative. The wide world feels like it's just this needle, my hand, and the emotions and thoughts I'm stitching into the piece.
The past feels palpable too. People have worked with textiles for thousands of years..
It's a close-up of a half-finished embroidery hoop. It shows a scene of grey mountains, a yellow sun, and a blue cloud in the background, and trees in the foreground. The trees are the French knot stitch, and everything else is the satin stitch-- except for the beginnings of a pond in the very foreground, which is the long-and-short stitch in teal.
I read a thinkpiece once that argued that human beings NEED physical hobbies. That we are neglecting our self-care to ignore skills that produce a real-life object at the end.
Sometimes I wonder if this line of thinking would help us Autistics with regulation. Embroidery certainly calms me down!
You're good! No immediate time commitment required :) Glad to hear you're interested!
Hey! A project of mine re: supporting Autistics has been accepted for publication. But! I want to center diverse voices e.g:
- POC Autistics
- Autistics who are low-verbal/an AAC user
- "High needs" Autistics
If you identify as 1 or more, please DM or comment if you'd be open to offering insight!
I've been doing the same with embroidery! It feels amazing to have something take shape in your hands. All of this destruction around us and humans are still creating... it's reassuring.
A semi-stormy sky is visible outside of a window. A fir tree is visible peaking up over a rooftop. The entire scene is very grey and bleak, except for some sunlight playing on some of the clouds, making them a nice welcoming white. There's lots of texture among the clouds.
A white hand holds up a postcard from the Colorado School of Public Health. it says "Congratulations on being admitting!" in a nice cursive font in white ink, over a scene of a forest with mountains in the background and snow in the foreground. It looks inspiring.
How has your 2026 been going so far? Genuinely, I want to hear it!
I didn't expect to be laid off early in the year. My reflection on 2025 focused on how happy I was with my career, but now I'm trying to rebuild things from the ground up.
However! Very thankful I can focus on myself for a bit.
Tongues of Fire (Gymnosporangium clavariiforme) a species of rust fungus which alternately infects Junipers and Hawthorns. Spotted today in The Scottish Wildlife Trusts' Bawsinch and Duddingston Nature Reserve, Edinburgh. Juniper is the primary host where produces orange tentacle-like spore tubes. These tubes expand and have a jelly like consistency when wet. Slightly dry at the moment but will be spectacular following rain.
The lifecycle of this rust fungus involves moving between Juniper and Hawthorn but it's the Juniper stage that produces these displays.
Apparently causes minimal damage to the host plants.

There's something more mesmerizing about the portrait version to me!
Thank you!! I really want to get more into fiber arts. Embroidery is so fun and relaxing!
A white hand holds up an embroidery hoop. Embroidered on the white/beige fabric within the hoop is a wreath of strawberries, pink buds, and white flowers, along with varying shades of green leaves. In the background, the scene is chaotic: a messy bed, several posters and items hung up on the walls.
Oh well! More time for my silly little hobbies.
The last few months have been a whirlwind. Laid off from my position at work, started my master's, and working on a super-secret written thing in progress!
It's just funny how fast life can change. One second you're happily employed, the next you're home 24/7.
It's the best time in 25 years to go mushroom hunting in California, and yet I haven't been out hiking once. So incredibly sad.
Anyone taking advantage of this last storm to hunt?

I've been wondering lately how Autism and addictive behaviors interact.
For me, with food, I'm really connected to texture and taste- and that mixes in with emotional eating, seeking immediate stress relief. It's difficult to disentangle whether I'm:
- Hungry
- Stressed
- Or limited by sensitivity
Apricot Jelly (Guepinia helvelloides) is a salmon-pink, ear-shaped, gelatinous fungus and always reminds me of rose petals. Rubbery in texture, is edible, and may be eaten raw with salads, pickled, or candied. Fruit in the late Summer and usually after a heavy rain.

THIS IS SO COOL! Amazing photo
This is my first year not visiting my family for Thanksgiving. Wow, it's so relieving. No expectations. No having to grin and bear it. Just me, alone in my apartment, taking some time away from work for myself. Highly recommend it.

Dyers polypore!
Do any other Autistics get the equivalent of a "runner's high" after a full week of work?
I come out of it feeling like I pushed myself to the limit and barely came out unscathed. Like the aches and pains are there, I'm just SO HAPPY that it's DONE that I can't feel them yet.
About a month ago I interviewed for my boss' position. The interview went badly; I immediately assumed my Autistic ass had failed the social interaction.
Well... guess who just got hired?!
I'm so over the moon about it. This is the next step in my upward trajectory and I couldn't be happier!
I feel you! When I first started driving I made the mistake of glancing out of the windows, excited that I could go wherever I wanted FAST! It almost caused a few accidents, but eventually I learned.. you have to be focused or else it's impossible! I'm just Autistic though, not AudHD
I know when I was a younger Autistic I struggled with learning to drive. It was an overwhelming activity-- and my instructor was loud and pushy. I ended up getting my license at 25 years old.
I wrote this article for folks still learning to drive! What other advice would you give?

Photograph of a large mass of light brown mushrooms growing on top of eachother and glistening in the rain. Their caps are open, but drooping around the edges.
I found some mushrooms! 🍄📷
It's the cover and first page of our digital zine. On the left, it has the title, a brief description, several blingees, and lots of imagery of this era. The imagery includes two old computers and a CD player. There is a banner that says "SUMMER 2001" along with sparkles. The title says "y2(are you o)k" and below that it says "a 1900s and 2000s zine: the y2k zeitgeist." On the right page it is EXTREMELY hard to read with teal text on a blue background. It has a graphic that says "wow" at the top. It says "y2(are you o)k issue #1" and below that information about the editors, such as Missy being the editor-in-chief, Sleepy being the Creative Director and an Editor, and Jem being the Circulation Director and an Editor. There are also credits to other websites where their resources were used.
Y2(are you o)k?
My friends and I made a FREE art zine about the 1990s and 2000s! We accepted art and writing in July, now it's here!!
It’s available on our website: bit.ly/4orwt1g
We tried to capture a lot of the essence of the old internet-- let us know if we got it right!
