Heatmap of NIH diversity supplements per state. From NIH Reporter.

In another detrimental turn of events, #diversity supplements on NIH grants are no longer a thing as of today - grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Right now, ~$65M goes to 750+ projects / people doing to #ScientificResearch in 45 of 50 states.

Can’t wait to read this!

When I was job seeking as a postdoc, someone at Psychonomics tried giving me job advice. After listening to what I do, he said I wasn’t getting job offers because I’m not really a cognitive psychologist. He suggested I apply to social psyc jobs instead.

I’m scheduled to sit on an NIH panel in Feb. I just received an email from the study section chair confirming that Feb meetings are all still scheduled and we should continue completing our reviews.

Bad luck for me that my own grant was due to be reviewed 1/31.

In retrospect, getting large numbers of anxious academics to join one small social media platform en masse was a mistake

A letter of reference that simply reads: “Jacob (redacted last name) is an adequate student”

December 1st—time to finish submitting a million reference letters. While I’d never write a one-liner calling a student "adequate," it’s tough to say more when you barely know them. Thankfully had much more to say for mine this year. Wishing all applicants the best of luck! #academicsky #psyscisky

My questions as very similar to Larisa’s, although this thread is inspiring me to ask more specifically about how to turn questions into research designs!

I’m doing prescreening this year and it’s been so helpful! One example: I thought someone had a great record but was concerned about fit - they were so specific about future plans but in ways that didn’t seem to 100% align with me. Talking to them I saw the overlap & can imagine how they’d fit.

Great opportunity for undergrad students at universities without PhD programs. Funding provided for them to do summer research at Emory, and online workshops in fall and spring.

Interesting! Looking at the bits of poster I can see, I wonder what would happen if people were asked more specially about how boring they think their stories are. Someone may think they can tell an interesting story but also think they are a pretty boring person overall (or vice versa).

Last year my grad student (the fabulous Jessica Udry) received one of these awards. This allowed her to visit @lkfazio.bsky.social & Lisa gave her VERY helpful advice on her dissertation proposal ideas. Highly recommend this for any junior scientist whose research fits their call.

(To be clear, I’m not an organizer of the awards, just an enthusiastic supporter of SRNDNA. Of the three co-directors, I believe only Duke Han is on Bluesky, and he may be able to answer questions if people have them. @sdukehan.bsky.social )
