Physically-based forecast works even within a changing climate, #AI based however fails to forecast extreme events, since they weren't training for that. Testing #AI before using it operationally is an excellent initiative. Is there any discussion about it at #EGU26? @atmsciences.bsky.social 🧪🎢🥼❄️🌊⛈️
“most people have been educated in empathy and respect, but sometimes I wonder if we’ve been educated in inclusion”... Important considerations to take into #science #AcademicSky. Handy hints for upcoming conference #EGU26 🧪❄️🎢⚒️🌊
Although very informative & worthy to know tips, it seems another hustle that journals try to pass to reviewers. Journals have way enough profits to afford slaughter job & ensure that the paper ain't plagiarism, mill, #AI generated, etc. before invite scientists to peer review. 🧪 #AcademicSky 🔭🎢❄️🥼
Years before Galileo made his observations of the 🌙 and Jupiter's moons, he intensively studied the work of Claudius Ptolemy, until Ptolemy's own mathematical logic brought Galileo to "the moment when Earth was thrust from the center of the Universe". A fascinating discovery if confirmed. 🔭 🧪 🎢

Good and entertained video listing the connections between #Physics and #AI . Seems that multi-layer artificial neural networks are not only a mathematical tool but they resemble a description of nature's deep behavior. #science 🧪 🎢 #math
Is there a formal name to describe the phycological and physical burden that carries the process of answer to reviewers? 😩 #AcademicSky
The "enshittification" driven by the toxic academic culture of "publish or perish". With publishers getting ↗️ profits -alike the music & movie industry- at the expense of degradation in scholars integrity ↘️: clear trend! Why are we doing this damage to #science? How to revert it? 🧪⚛️🎢 #AcademicSky

Imagine starting new year seeing your paper published on January 1st where a long thought plasma stability limit has been overcome, a breakthrough in nuclear fusion, one of the most important scientific project for the future of humanity. What a success! 🧪⚛️🎢 #physic

"Great science happens in great teams". True! but evaluation & recognition still done individually. Papers written equally by all authors are rare, only leader author takes a big chunk of the work. Whatever ideas this committee will come out shouldn't be more work load for scientists. 🧪 #AcademicSky
Whatever "High/Low emission" means here, & putting aside far-fetched conclusions about how our lives will be affected... the plot shows that only one High emission scenario slows down the #AMOC collapse by 100yrs. Shall we aim to reach that scenario? Since it will collapse anyhow 🧪❄️🥼🌊
Although I agree with the top 2 of this list, I find it a crime that the film "Contact" based on Carl Sagan's book wasn't event mentioned. And what about "Arrival"?? A bit disappointed of fellow physicists 😛 #AcademicSky 🧪 🥼❄️ 🔭 🎢 ⚛️

Space weather can significantly impact life on Earth and our daily technology. I recently spoke on #SciLux with Dr. Carl Shneider from SnT (@uni.lu) about this fascinating field!

The glacier retreat allowed to find his rests lost in 1959; this's the story of @bas.ac.uk #Meteorologist Dennis "Tink" Bell. Ironically global warming is helping to acknowledge those who gave their lives to Polar exploration whose early research allows us a better understanding of the #Climate 🧪❄️🎢
Science needs to stay objective & factual, this @nature.com article #TimPalmer presents a compelling argument on why basic climate research is paramount. Avoid extremes of misleading arguments by political parties/ immoderate conclusion by @wwattribution.bsky.social like people is detrimental. 🧪 ❄️🎢🥼
Good that the issues with peer-review (PR) are trying to be tackled. However, schemes like distributed PR or journals requiring authors to take care of PR process before submitting are just passing the hurdle to authors while journals' APC contine to increase! How to understand that? #AcademicSky 🧪

Portrait of Wheeler in his twenties. He is wearing a dark jacket, white shirt, and tie. Wheeler is looking to the side of the camera.
An older wheeler standing in front of a chalkboard. His hands are clasped. The diagram behind him shows a direct path from point A to point B labeled “classical,” and a wave emanating from A and passing to B labeled “quantum.”
Wheeler walking with Einstein, Tomonaga, and a fourth person, through the woods near the Institute for Advanced Study.
Physicist John Archibald Wheeler was born #OTD in 1911.
A titan of 20th century science, he introduced the S-Matrix; developed (with Bohr) the first general theory of fission; coined "worm hole" and popularized “black hole”; and trained Feynman, Everett, Thorne, and many others. 🧪 ⚛️

Unlike many press coverage only focusing in fine tuning modeling results to support #AMOC collapse, this @nature.com article highlights scientist different hypothesis & theories on what could happen with the #AMOC in the future climate. Main point, we need observations, #science is lead by data. 🧪❄️🌊
Most of the hard work is done in the lab, but the inspiration, ideas for research and breakthroughs come from unexpected places and moments. That's why scientific in-person conferences are still places where great #science is forged. <happy|birthday> #quantum #mechanics #iTeachMath #iTeachPhysics

This @nature.com article delusional hints (ok for Computer Science?): "Identity what you want, interview several potential PIs, get support from other postdocs..."
The reality in physical sciences: Send 100+ job applications, one might work out, that's the right PI for you, period. #AcademicSky 🧪 ❄️
