After 37 days in the hospital, we brought him home. Not because he’s better. He was rejected by every memory care unit and he actually got worse at the hospital. Last night was not great. I slept 4 hours before he was up: active, aggressive, and belligerent. He didn’t stop moving until 3 pm.

My husband and I haven’t had a moment’s peace in 17 days. Haven’t had the time to cry, to scream or yell about the unfairness of having to be the ones to carry it all.

We crash onto our bed emotionally and mentally hollowed out.

17 days… and counting.

Today, while my mom was staying with him so I could get some work done, he fell and so did she. So on Day 17 of his interminable hospital, we almost began a Day 1 of hers.

Thankfully she wasn’t hurt badly, just a bruised hip, a slight bump on her forehead and a panic attack in the MRI.

My father has been in the hospital for aggression due to his dementia for the past 17 days.

17 days of working in tiny increments from his bedside.

17 days of regurgitating his diagnosis, his triggers, his martial arts background to staff.

17 days of fighting with a broken healthcare system.

These starters rule dude.
