An image of intracellular parasites that have been labelled so they are visible.
Because in diseases like Chagas, leaving even a single parasite behind isn’t an option.
At DDU, we developed a washout assay to determine if compounds can achieve complete parasite clearance.

One conversation. One shared goal. From a conference in Bolivia to a global collaboration, teams at DDU, the University of Washington, and DNDi are working together to develop new treatments for Chagas disease.
By bringing together expertise from DDU, @uofwa.uw.edu, & @dndi.org, we’re working to turn scientific potential into real progress against #ChagasDisease.
Tackling #neglecteddiseases takes more than innovation—it takes #collaboration.

World Chagas Disease Day acts as a reminder of a global health challenge that often goes unnoticed. In our latest blog, Manu De Rycker from the @dundee.ac.uk shares what his team are doing to combat this disease.

Observed on April 14, World Chagas Disease Day shines a light on a often “silent” but impactful neglected tropical disease: Chagas disease.
Today is a reminder of the importance of addressing neglected diseases and support affected communities.

On World Chagas Disease Day, Unitaid highlights the importance of screening for Chagas disease. Too often, people are diagnosed late or not at all. Through SafeStart+, we are integrating screening into antenatal care.

Graphic showing a seated woman with her head down, alongside text reading: “For too long, women have been blamed as a source of Chagas disease.” An icon of the insect vector appears beside her. A red banner at the bottom reads: “It’s time to shift the story.”
Today is World #ChagasDisease Day.
For too long, women have been stigmatized for a disease they didn't choose.
Most were infected the same way as everyone else by insect transmission, contaminated food, or other routes.
It's time to replace stigma with support. 🧡

🧪 Throughout the day, we will be posting some of the work that we have accomplished for NTDs in those 20 years. Find out more about our portfolio!
🙏 We thank the many partners we work with, especially those committed to developing new treatments for NTDs.

This is the reason the DDU was established – to support the translation of drug targets into therapeutics. Listen to our founders, Sir Mike Ferguson and Prof. Alan Fairlamb talk about that journey here

Today is World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day.
The Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of diseases that affect >1 billion people worldwide (~1 in 8 people). Despite this number, treatments and diagnostics are often unsafe and unsuitable, if they even exist.

#Chagas disease remains very neglected, and not only in the US, in spite of an estimated 8 million people being infected with T. cruzi. We, and our collaborators, aim to develop new medicines, but this is becoming increasingly challenging due to lack of funding.

Great to have a latest #Chagas disease drug discovery paper published in @rsc.org MedChem: pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...
This work highlights how we decide to progress or terminate series, and hopefully provides some useful approaches and lessons.
