Fossil fuel markets are highly volatile, politicised & conflict-prone. Fossil fuels usually end up traded & exported, not kept for local use.

Renewable energy provides greater independence & sovereignty, less vulnerability to attack & more opportunity on the path to an energy secure future. 2/2

More drilling in North Sea ‘not the answer’ for UK energy security, say former military leaders Government told to focus on transition to mix of wind, solar, tidal and nuclear energy

📢 Former military leaders have told the UK government: more drilling in the north sea would do nothing to improve the UK's energy security

As we know, drilling for more fossil fuels, wherever they may be located, is a bad bet for energy security. 1/2

Thank you to all who wrote to Ed Miliband and your MPs about this issue. 💚

You made it clear how passionate we all are when it comes to protecting nature.

We will continue to fight for it. 💪3/3

Thankfully, the legal protections for nature have remained largely intact, with the Gov opting instead for guidance regarding the Habitats Regulations & to tweak rather than remove the National Park duty.

We'll continue our parliamentary advocacy with our partners. 2/3

🐝Legal protections for nature have remained largely intact in the UK

The UK Gov has announced next steps for the 'Fingleton Review' - a report that threatened to remove some remaining safeguards protecting nature & people, & would've made it easier for developers to damage or destroy UK nature 1/3

EU urged to broadly restrict 'forever chemicals' "Forever chemicals" pose a growing risk to health and the environment and should be broadly banned across the European Union, with some exceptions, EU experts said in findings published on Thursday.

"PFAS pollution is ubiquitous and the health impacts on EU citizens are becoming clearer every day. Our policymakers owe it to people and our ecosystems across Europe to act now and prevent this emerging large-scale public health disaster" - Helene Duguy, ClientEarth lawyer.

Chronic ocean warming drives 20% annual decline in fish biomass - Oceanographic Chronic ocean warming is drives a 20% annual decline in fish biomass across the Northern Hemisphere - startling for global fisheries.

Ocean warming is causing a nearly 20% drop in fish biomass every year.

At the same time, marine heatwaves can temporarily boost some populations, which masks long-term losses and making fisheries management even more complicated.

What’s driving this decline? Research from Dr. Shanna Swan shows it’s closely linked to the chemicals in plastic. 🚨 ⚠️

Extreme weather ⛈️

The role that the climate crisis played in the formation of the recent storms in the Med is still uncertain.

However, early analysis from @climatecentral.org found it made a marine heatwave that supercharged the storms 10 times more likely.

ClientEarth court action against INEOS' new €3bn plastics project Our lawyers, together with 14other NGOs, have taken action to block petrochemicals giant INEOS’ plastics project in Belgium. And for good this time.

We’re challenging that system in court. Our legal action targets INEOS's €4bn 'Project One' plastics facility in Antwerp - a project that would lock in fossil-fuel based plastic production for decades, pushed by billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.

‘They pushed so many lies about recycling’: the fight to stop big oil pumping billions more into plastics Plastic production has doubled over the last 20 years – and will likely double again. For author Beth Gardiner, metal water bottles and canvas tote bags are not the solution. So what is?

In a stunning new book, author Beth Gardiner investigates how recycling was promoted for decades as a full solution, while fossil fuel and petrochemical companies expanded plastic production behind the scenes.
