Fernanda Hopenhaym of UN WG on #BizHR presents how int'l courts & HR systems, including recent landmark advisory opinions such as #ICJAO, are clarifying state obligations in light of climate emergency & what businesses & FIs should be doing, emphasizing the importance of due diligence.
It is an important step in a process that must be centered on #humanrights, the right to a #healthyenvironment and the #precautionary principle to ensure effective protection of the environment, the ocean and the climate system, as the #ICJAO recently concluded.

As #ICJAO reaffirmed that #pollution is a core element of #TriplePlanetaryCrisis, Marco Keiner of #UNECE highlights #PRTRs role in managing pollution effectively & efficiently, encouraging more countries to see the value of solid common standards & principles the protocol offers.

States said that the UNFCCC is a space for collaboration, not litigation. This is one of the many reasons the #ICJAO on climate applies perfectly. The ICJ clarifies what collaboration requires, so one good way to avoid litigation is to fulfil your duties.
