๐Ÿ“ฃ New paper ๐ŸŽ‰ Proud to have helped with this nice study by @wlangdon12.bsky.social showing a trade-off between nutritional quality & microclimate of host plants for Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas). Here in England, they choose warmth over nutrition resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Saddleback Caterpillar, Acharia stimulea. A reddish brown colored caterpillar covered in lighter colored short spines that look almost like fur. The middle of the insect is bright green and white, almost like the insect is wearing a saddle.

Tricky time finding a suitably "horse-y" invertebrate for y'all, but the Saddleback Catterpillar (๐˜ˆ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ข ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข - photo by Mathew Orwat) is pretty close imo! ๐Ÿ‡

figure I should introduce myself on this website! I'm a first-year PhD student in the Entomology program at Cornell, interested broadly in the impacts of climate change on insect populations, and currently developing a project on long-term trends in apple maggot ๐Ÿ›๐ŸŽ happy to be here!
