Just made big payment to start our solar project. Parts now will be ordered. A bit scary with job and market. Hope tax credit will still exist.
It’s great for learning, not always correct so you have to do your best to verify by eye and look for consistency over a session. But yes! A+ Recommend.
I’m tempted to try to identify the birds in your awesome photos. But maybe you already have experts on board? (Don’t want to embarrass myself)
My recommendation for US federal workers: steady onand stay calm, you have great capacity for work and passion for your mission. Pick your battles. Know your records management schedules. Don’t do anything illegal. Document all requests.
Really not an expert, but wouldn’t more commercial bird flock genetic #biodiversity (and smaller operations) slow or reduce risk of #birdflu impacts ? www.nytimes.com/2025/01/23/n...
Yeah, did folks expect food prices to go DOWN?
I’ve played with the Mixtral 8x7B LLM on DuckDuckGo and it has me questioning if I’ve misunderstood gular pouches and gular fluttering all these years. Any #ornithologists out there who can confirm taxonomic distribution of these?
I hear you, but must confess I’m exhausted already trying to keep up at work and think through what is ethical and right
I don’t see Cottom on Blue Sky…would follow her if I could
and field ornithology!
A truly gripping story: impressive journalism, complicated back stories, deeply sad because of the personal and societal truths it exposes.
Indeed.

I read. And then read the annual Dylan Christmas light analysis. #newyearseve #reading
Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were among my earliest inspirations. As I have aged they only grew as important models for how to be good humans #rip #jimmycarter open.substack.com/pub/robertre...

I thought of that one, too, but it pretty sure it’s a proper noun
I remember that @nycuratrix.bsky.social used to post science words that weren’t considered valid in #nyt #spellingbee. Now I see there’s @rejectednytwords.bsky.social. So yesterday my rejected Bee words were CHELA and CHELAE, today (so far) I’ve got TUFF

Without process or guardrails written & approved in a reasonable way, people can A) act willy nilly in ways that are at best unproductive & at worst harmful & even catastrophic, or B) sit paralyzed thinking they aren't allowed to do anything. Basic, I know. And yet. #governance #humanbehavior #ai
Honestly, I'm glad the work has had even modest impact.
Learned today that I'm owed royalties because people accessed my 1997 dissertation. 1) embarrassed they paid for it, given my commitment to #openscience (I did give freely upon request) 2) yay, some people thought it had value 3) not very many people, apparently 4) I never published any of it.
I'm grateful there's research like this. can use in my work.
