On April 29–30, 1976, the European Mariculture Society was officially founded in Bredene, Belgium, with a clear mission, connect people, share knowledge, and promote multidisciplinary aquaculture research across Europe.

50 years ago, a group of eleven marine scientists gathered at the 10th European Symposium of Marine Biologists in Oostende, Belgium, planting the seed for what would become the European Aquaculture Society.
