Our new study on the prevalence of psychological distress among adolescents in Ireland is out.
We looked at anonymous surveys from over 20,000 adolescents across Ireland and explored at how rates of poor mental health, repetitive self-harm and suicide attempt were changing. Read more below! ⤵️

Key findings
- Excessive screen time (+4 hours/day) were all associated with poorer health for girls, but not boys
- 28% of girls (age 15-17) had sexual images of them shared without their consent
- High body dissatisfaction was associated with significant increased self-harm for both boys and girls
Using #PlanetYouth data, we examined differences in social behaviours in teenagers (social media, screen time, sexting, body dissatisfaction) to understand why rates of psychopathology are so much higher in girls than boys
