Diving For English Warship Sunk in 1703 Storm
Diving For English Warship Sunk in 1703 Storm YouTube video by History Hit

The YouTube version of the latest History Hit doc on the Northumberland has just been released. A great balance of the history and archaeology of the ship and the need to do much more while it is exposed on the Goodwin Sands. #NavalHistory #Archaeology youtu.be/UsWFfv6-jiM?...

@seaspitfires.com and other WWII experts, were some LCAs converted for carrying fuel. A LCA at Forton Lake has fuel tanks in the space where the troops were. See images. With @archsoton50.bsky.social #Archaeology

Last week @archsoton50.bsky.social maritime students were exploring the #ProtectedWreck Hazardous, a 60 gun warship, lost in Bracklesham Bay in 1706.

It will give context to the wreck investigation of the Northumberland. I haven’t seen it, what’s your verdict?

The sands shifted in 2014 exposing the site and have not returned. Climate change is not helping. More frequent high energy weather and sea conditions are washing out the sand and silts, which were trapped in the wreck. Marine borers eating the exposed wood. We’re losing it at an alarming rate.

A game of spot the difference on the #ProtectedWreck Hazardous. Images show the same area of the forward hold, one from 2019 and the other 2025. There has been no archaeological excavation in this area, all natural. #Archaeology #NavalHistory #MaritimeHistory #Shipwrecks

£15m Heritage at Risk Capital Fund for Historic England to give grants for buildings, gardens and scheduled monuments is good news. I hope one day shipwrecks will receive similar. In my quest to make shipwrecks visible checkout #ProtectedWreck Hazardous latest video youtu.be/mSg1lhLW-M4?...

The trestle-tree we recently found on #ProtectedWreck Invincible is likely to belong to the main fighting top. Why? Well, we also found the main and preventer stays in 2019. Newspaper articles from March 1758 report the main mast was cut away. #NavalHistory #shipwrecks #Archaeology #MaritimeHistory
