A poster with a colorful stack of books on the left and this text on the right: “Hey, Teenagers: Pay close attention to the books people try to ban. Then, make a beeline to read those books, if you can. Find out for yourself why those people want that book banned. Find out for yourself if they can be trusted to know what’s best for you.” ~ Jeff Zentner

Yesterday was the national Evacuee's Day in #Finland. Remembering those who had to leave their homes, often hastily and only with what they could carry, and start life anew as internal #refugees because of the unjust aggression of the Kremlin.
About 420 000 people. Over 11% of the population.
Dr Lucy Rogers is pictured on the stage of the Royal Institution lecture theatre behind Faraday’s desk, a large brown curved wooden affair. On the wall is a giant screen showing the cover of Lucy’s book ‘Up’
Wonderful talk by @drlucyrogers.com at @rigb.org last night. Highly recommend her book ‘Up’ which is rightly receiving accolades.

Nymans
Let me note one special thing I saw at Nymans, on that rather bleak March day, a thing that can be planted by any of us during the coming autumn with an assurance of immediate effect next spring. You know how truly right daffodils look in grass?

It seems to be the best year for bluebells in half a century. Bluebells to infinity in Moore Abbey Wood in Monasterevin.
Not just in patches, but everywhere this year.

“Nunavik, with a population of 14,000, has seen as many cases of tuberculosis in the first three months of 2026 — around 40 — as were diagnosed in the first six months of 2025. According to a statement from the NRBHSS, eight out of the 14 communities in the region have active outbreaks currently”
450 redundancies announced at the Ulster University. The impact of this will be devastating to staff, students & the functioning of the North as a whole. From social sciences speaking truth to power, to art giving this place joy - the decision must be reversed.

Every day is “National Something Day” – on 21 April, it’s tea
Once a luxury, arriving centuries ago on a slow boat from China, tea had its pivotal moment in 1784

CURLEW IS HOPEFUL FOR A WILDER WORLD, SOMEWHERE SHE FEELS SAFE TO REST. WHERE THE WIND BLOWS, GRASS WILL SHELTER HER, AS SHE SEARCHES FOR HER QUIET NEST. CURLEW IS HOPEFUL FOR A WILDER WORLD. HEATHLAND, MOORLAND, MARSH, OR DUNE. SHE WADES, SHE SINGS, AND STILL SHE TRUSTS THAT A WILDER WORLD WILL FIND HER SOON.
It’s World Curlew Day 🤍
A perfect moment to celebrate one of our most iconic beauties (and one of our most rapidly declining breeding bird species).

In a new exhibition, Gilbert & George pay tribute to their homeless friend George Crompton, who died last year.
This short Chanel 4 section on AI created child abuse is absolutely horrifying. The U.K. government are acting. So are 🏴 but new laws take time, tech is fast and most of the oligarchs are just evil 😣 youtu.be/mJdVWhlP-o8?...
Collage of alder and willow: a mature weeping willow in an open field; a botanical illustration of Salix (willow) with long trailing leaves; a willow tree reflected in water; a botanical plate of Alnus (alder) with leaves and catkins; a tall alder in winter; and a riverside painting with willows leaning over the water.
21 April is Parilia, the Roman festival honouring Pales, a pastoral deity. It’s said on this day two fishermen refused to observe her rites. In anger she turned them into an alder and a willow. They still haunt the riverbank, the willow trailing branches like lines cast for fish.
A lovely decent soul, he will be so missed by everyone who interacted with him.
Any illustrators out there - preferably with experience of magazine cover art? I have some potential paid work for Film Stories over then next couple of weeks or so. #journorequest
Good news for anyone outside the UK. I can now send unframed prints to the EU, US and Australia from within those countries. No customs charges, no import surprises. Just prints.

Globe showing the Atlantic Ocean with arrows depicting the AMOC circulation: warm surface currents (pink/red) flowing northward from the tropics toward the Arctic, and cold deep return currents (blue/purple) flowing southward. The background shows sea surface temperature trends, with a prominent blue cold patch, the "cold blob", south of Greenland, contrasting with warming (orange/red) across the rest of the ocean.
1/ There's a system of ocean currents in the Atlantic that shapes Europe's #climate, drives monsoons, and keeps sea levels stable along the US coast.
In the last 5 years, the scientific evidence that it could collapse has shifted dramatically.
Most people have no idea. 🧵
