Good point - for about a month it was that way for us also. We were lucky it was only a few weeks!

The season of "using the back porch as a fridge" has officially closed in Sitka. I enjoy spring, but I miss the extra space!
Scene across an ocean channel to high, craggy mountains covered in snow, smaller mountains still green are grouped below. There are huge, fluffy clouds in the bright blue sky, dancing in the peaks.
Beautiful #AlaskaSky
haha - you and I posted at the same time!
Come on - do it for the kids! 💪
Alaskans: The last day to apply for the PFD is tomorrow, 3/31. Spare yourself the pain and regret that comes with April 1st.
Wow - thanks for sharing!
Our problem is that Sitka doesn't get snow like this and we aren't set up for it. Everyone is sick of it, some more than others. Haha
At 12:23 a.m. a caller reported getting into an argument with a neighbor. He said the neighbor had moved snow from his own yard into the caller's yard, the caller put it back in the neighbor's yard, and the situation escalated, the caller said, until the neighbor threw a couple of punches at the caller. Police opened a case and are investigating.
Never underestimate people pissed off over snow. Cabin fever at its finest. This case has been referred to the DA. #Sitka #Alaska
Heads up AK: (H)Finance starts public testimony today at 1:30 on the Operating Budget, continuing Th & F. Today the SE, parts of the Interior, check AKleg meetings for your area. At 5:00, (H)Education takes public testimony on the BSA. Head to your local LIO to testify or call 844-586-9085. #akleg
Awww...I've met Isabel! Nice photos.
Sitka is now in that cycle also and we are not impressed.
The top of Arrowhead Mtn. which does, indeed, look like the top of an arrow. Very point! The sky is SO clear and blue, while the shadows that come down the snow-covered peak are as blue as the sky. There are snow covered spruce at the lower elevation.
This pic looks like the sky is flowing down Arrowhead. #Sitka #AlaskaSky
News article, contents in post.
Small town Sitka Police Blotter: "At 12:20 pm a caller reported a man wearing attire with a phone company logo on it was walking around on Charles St. Police found he was working for the phone company." #Sitka #Alaska
Stunning.
Ribbons of neon green cascade from the night sky with hints of pink and white, landing on the silhouetted trees at the bottom of the picture.
Sitka last night.
A still river in winter, a few ducks swimming in the foreground. Trees on either bank are covered with snow and fuzzily reflect in the water. The sky is clear and blue. Winter stillness.
The view out into Sitka Sound from Totem Park, a clearing between two snow-covered trees, spruce on the left. There are mounds of snow at the edge of the ocean at high tide, far in the distance there is a small island. The sky is bright blue above, with white, long clouds at the horizon.
The only way for me to stay sane is to get out in nature. Sitka Sound as seen from Totem Park.
The sun low in the sky, slanting through a forest of spruce trees, the sun's rays catching the slight mist in the air to create shafts of sunlight dancing though the trees.
The first sunny day in weeks, the ice is gone, so EVERYONE was in Totem Park today. Lots of groups of folks visiting, everyone smiling in the sun, lots of "Happy New Years!" exchanged. Once again, Sitka's charmed bubble holds and we didn't have the snow that dumped everywhere else in the SE!
A small log on a table top, about 18" long and 6" in diameter. There are three lit white tapers standing on top (but in holes drilled in the log) and there are natural spruce boughs woven among the candles. A fake bird is sitting on the right on greenery. Behind is a table with many decorations - An old time St. Nick, stars, gnomes, etc.
A blessed Yule to all who celebrate.
A simple picture of a snow covered field with Spruce trees in an uneven line across the middle of the pic. The sun is just a yellow glow in the sky, shading to apricot then blue/gray.
This pic of Tok about 9/10 years ago fits the Solstice weekend perfectly. That glow, tho. I miss the Interior in winter. (Not in summer - too many mosquitoes! lol)
2 swans canoodling (as I choose to see it) on a river in winter. Snow lines the shores and the swans are seen through a few branches at the shoreline.
We have swans that come back to winter every year. This year there are 20+, a real bonanza for us. Usually there are around a dozen. Lots of juveniles, which is great to see. Got a walk in before what is threatening to be a significant winter storm. #Sitka #Alaska
Whew! Had a fog scare when visibility went down to a mile, but now it's back up to 8! Looks like Juneau is a go. (If the fog stays gone...🤞🤞🤞) Really looking forward to the week. 😍
It's always a lot of fun. Glad you could make it!
Welcome to the LIO Jake - I'll see you there! (Sitka LIO here.)
Last year at our Xmas bazaar, I sold a hat to a woman. It was my own design, with fireweed.
I found out today she gave it to her sis-in-law, who lives on the Chatham Islands, which are 650km away from New Zealand.
One of my hats is all the way over there! So cool! #knitting #knit
Eastern channel at low tide, pools of water reflect the snow-capped mountains in the distance, between gravel beds. Small, tree-covered islands are in the mid-distance. The sky is clear and light blue.
We've had lots & lots & lots of rain lately. (I love rain, but still..) I'm reminding myself how gorgeous Sitka is in the sun.
🤣😜
I'm sorry that happened to you. 😔Yes - excellent point. Reflective gear all the time for extra safety! It can be dark and dreary some days, plus drivers are inattentive ALL the time!
Ugh. Been there & done that during the winter. Definitely glad I don't have to every night!
