Last night I had a genuine fear & feeling of sickness as to what I & the world were going to wake up to. Do world leaders not realise that most of us ‘ordinary’ human beings want to do a decent days work, maybe take one holiday a year & enjoy time with family & friends. Dangerous times we live in.
Last three weeks of Stage 4 mothers life I was told by NHS Cancer Specialist: I could either put my mom in a home, or a residential home that would have a qualified nurse, to fund it her home would be sold.
I came out & made my mind up to nurse mom at her home, she died two weeks later.
Poperinge in my back garden.
Saw at least five flit across our garden. Dad would have loved sitting out there watching it.
A disgrace to the Presidency and the country.
Happy Easter Bank Holiday weekend!

Well that was a bitterly cold one yesterday down on the Somme. Temperatures never went above 4c & they went down to 0c. We had sun, hail, rain and wind. Short clip of Lochnagar Crater at La Boiselle on the second bout of hail.
I stopped watching CtM a number of years ago, made me cry every episode I’d be crying…
21 March 1918, my 24 yr old Gt Uncle, Cpl Hugh Robinson, Lancs Fusiliers, was KIA on the opening day of the Spring Offensive. A Territorial, he left for Egypt in Sept 1914, was wounded at Gallipoli, fought at Passchendaele and must have seen so much horror. His mother always wore his photograph.
Scene of a perfectly executed trench raid carried out by 1st South Staffords on 15 October 1916. On the River Douve south of Messines in West Flanders. Raid took place on right hand side of the road as shown on these maps and Google view. My yellow highlight shows raid area. #ww1 #genealogy
I am lucky and privileged.
Hopefully the fog has cleared up now.
Merci ☺️
Calm and peaceful, before the hustle & bustle of Ieper life kicks in for the day.
Looking to be the start of a fine Spring day, beautiful reflection of the Menin Gate Memorial in the water of the ramparts surrounding part of Ypres.
On Saturday we took in the actions of Polderhoek Chateau an #NZEF attack on the chateau which was fortified by the Germans. William Halsey lost his life during the attack & today is resting in peace within Hooge Crater Cemetery.
The memorial entry within the #Otago Witness stated
"He did is duty."
First is bathing my face in the warmth of the sun, second is washing on the siegfried line 😉
Indeed they are…
In 1927 as the image shows you would have been able to drive & park your car in front of the Caribou at the Newfoundland Park-Beaumont Hamel. Jump forward 99 years, lovely battlefield tour with Canadians & one Newfoundlander.
A tip of the hat to you also, thanks for the follow, which is returned 😊
Saint Patrick’s Day in the Morning
Sweet is the sleep of them, far away,
And how should they heed if a man should say,
"Oh, don't you remember Saint Patrick's Day -
Saint Patrick's Day in the morning."

On the 30th/31st May 1940 their position was on the Bergues-Furnes (Veurne) canal which the Germans made a determined attempt to breakthrough, resulting in heavy casualties, one of them being Matthew Fell, resting in peace within Veurne Communal Cemetery Extension.
Last week on Tuesday 10th March we took in the battle areas and resting place of Matthew Stanley Fell, who was killed during the Dunkirk evacuations. The 2nd Battalion in this instance a machine gun battalion.
“Just,” hopefully it gave him some temporary relief from the frontline.
When the artillery attack was at its height a mine exploded under this mount, and a strong hostile infantry attack was immediately launched amidst the trenches and the mound...
#OTD Action of St Eloi, 14th - 15th March 1915.
“As I lay in the trenches at Neuve Chapelle, Where the big guns barked like the hounds of hell, Sez I to mysel’, sez I to mysel’ - “Billy, my boy, here’s the end o’ you.”
Remembering the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, 10th - 13th March 1915.
Quote “This weekend DOVO Sedee in Meerdaal was called to a plane bomb that was found in the Kattenbos in Lommel. It was an American 500-pound bomb, which probably came from a crashed B-17 bomber.Because the bomb had not been dropped, the detonators were still intact & partially armed.”
