Sappho Digital grew out of a dissertation project and years of research – including an anthology on the subject. It models knowledge about the literary reception of Sappho using formal ontologies, making it an exemplary use case for digital reception studies – and the literary semantic web. 4/6

These texts quote Sappho’s work, incorporate her as a character, draw on biographical theories and legends, and weave an intertextual web with other reception documents. And right now, literary Sappho reception in the German-speaking world is experiencing a remarkable surge. 3/6

Over the centuries, the poems of the ancient Greek poet Sappho have been praised, cited, and – like her persona – creatively reimagined. German-language literary history is no exception: 1,000+ literary texts bear witness to a productive literary reception of Sappho. 2/6
