Urban habitats impose an “urban penalty."
Implication: Designing wildlife-friendly cities is essential for sustaining urban bird populations. 💚

Long-term collaboration between @thebotanics.bsky.social and Indonesian botanical institutions resulted in the discovery of #Hellwigia opalina only found in #Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Oh! I did not realise that. William inform the journal about it.. @biotropica.bsky.social
This already happened but super thanks to @trishg.bsky.social and @britishecologicalsociety.org for starting this trend.
This was also the first collab between #associationOfTropicalBiologyandConservation (ATBC) DEI and BES. Its time different societies and researchers work united! 💪🏾✊🏾
❤️ I know!!!
Really a very good reason to bring your good work to @biotropica.bsky.social and support #ATBC !

The high price of urban living in house sparrows

We studied sex-based differences in parental care across rural and urban habitats and their implications on the reproductive success in sparrows.

Another lovely article this week, this time by #alejandraJaramillo et al., especially for those who want to learn more about what can university botanical gardens do?
Definitely read and send it to university policy makers...

New article! 🚨
Recognized Indigenous-managed forests in the Amazon can prevent fire-related and zoonotic and vector borne diseases in humans, especially in highly forest-degraded municipalities.

Confused writing is usually a symptom of confused thinking. As we struggle to clarify writing, we clarify our thoughts. AI writing aids rob us of that struggle, leaving clean-looking text and thoughts still confused for lack of inspection. Writing is not just a product; it is a diagnostic tool.
Bottom line:
Even in highly seasonal habitats, synchrony is rare! Except for the mass-flowering species that dominate the landscape.
This work sets the stage for further long-term phenology & pollination studies in India’s fragile lateritic plateaus.
breathtaking “super bloom” landscapes Kaas is famous for.
💧Flowering strongly linked to water availability & rainfall patterns (including lag effects).
🐝 Plant–pollinator networks shifted with flowering peaks, highlighting dynamic interactions in this short but intense season.
We developed 2 synchrony indices that capture synchrony in time & abundance, and observed pollinator interactions.
We found that:
🌸Overall, flowering was surprisingly asynchronous—likely due to competition for pollinators.
💐But ~30% of species showed mass flowering, driving the
Edited from Saket's X tweet/Xweet!
We studied the phenology of 76 herb. spp. on the Kaas plateau, Western Ghats, India, for over 3 yrs.
We asked:
🌼Do plants in this seasonal sky-island community flower in synchrony?
🐝Does the plant-pollinator network remain stable across the flowering season?

Also, enough about the selective understanding of the global south issues in science, which seems to disappear when one is NOT a collaborator!

Reviewers - I think you should get XYZ data, although it may not be relevant to this paper, and should be in a different paper.

Reviewers stop with these statements..
...I would like to see whole genome data or more genome data, although you have already presented it and I understand that it will not be possible for you to generate it...
Me- I did not realise that a review is where one self-talks !!!

This... 💯 true for any region...
NOT supporting anti-free speech obviously, but let's improve our schools and universities, and be better.
Students:
Reading is not a project. Definitely not a summer project.
That's what students do.
Just like breathing is what living organisms do.
@treelab.bsky.social there are no reading projects, but you can borrow books, or we can direct you to the aisle in the #iiserbhopal library.
