I haven't had a Mac since System 7 but is a modern Mac a good alternative if you just want stuff to *work*? I love the idea of Linux in principle but life is too short. Windows 11 can't even reliably copy and paste anymore. Time to ditch it.
Thank you to guest editors Hanna Volkova and Alla Shuhai from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and our UK-based colleagues @juliehulme-psyc.bsky.social and @kath-eliza.bsky.social for their contributions.
We just published our Ukranian special issue of @osotl.bsky.social: osotl.org/osotl/issue/...
Subtitled 'Tempus fugit, Academia sempiterna' ('time passes, but the academy is eternal'), this was a collaboration with the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA).
We'll also hear from an impressive array of industry representatives, education professionals, and inspiring apprentices. Full details are available on the website.
I'm delighted to be chairing the Holyrood Insight Future of Apprenticeships Scotland Conference next week, with keynotes from Ben Macpherson MSP, Minister for Higher and Further Education, and Michelle Thomson MSP.

The underlying papers were co-authored with @uofgcompsci.bsky.social colleagues @oanamandrei.bsky.social, @waqarnabi.bsky.social, and Alistair Morrison.
Just published a blog post on the Advance HE website, drawing on our research into how Graduate Apprentices develop an impressive range of professional skills.

Hybrid talk at Computing Education Practice in Pakistan (PkCEP): 'Delivering a Work-Based Learning Degree Programme in Software Engineering: Lessons from Practice'
An early start this morning to deliver my talk at the hybrid Computing Education Practice in Pakistan (PkCEP): 'Delivering a Work-Based Learning Degree Programme in Software Engineering: Lessons from Practice'. Thank you to the organsiers (including @waqarnabi.bsky.social) for the invitation!
This is awful 😞
It's hard to believe this is real. Jesus.
New journal article: 'From disciplinary enthusiasm to soulless tasks: norms behind computing educators' emotion display' with @vgrande.bsky.social, Päivi Kinnunen, Anne-Kathrin Peters, @mihaelasabin.bsky.social, Matilde Sánchez-Peña, and Ethel Tshukudu: doi.org/10.1080/0304...
Ha ha, Apple say I need to phone them to get it fixed. The world's biggest tech company needs me to use a telephone to get their streaming service working in 2025!
Same goes for the #Murderbot finale. And we wonder why people choose piracy over legit options?
The Apple TV+ app for Android is the worst streaming app I've ever used. Shockingly poor piece of software that prevents me from watching the content I've paid for. All the hype around the return of #Foundation and I can't even watch it!

We covered a lot of work in a short space of time, including our paper on video games and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic (doi.org/10.1177/1555...) and various work on using games to develop graduate skills (e.g. doi.org/10.1016/j.co... and doi.org/10.1007/978-...).
Me playing Zelda circa 1990. I look very cool.
Thanks to the @advancehe.bsky.social team for the opportunity to speak at the Mental Health in Higher Education conference yesterday.
I failed to take any photos so here's a peek at my slides, featuring a very flattering photo of me playing the original Zelda circa 1990.

Lovely to hear from Joanna Jardine, one of our @uofgcompsci.bsky.social Graduate Apprentices!
"All those people who look like they've got it sorted? They don't." We are all still inventing ourselves. Great start to the keynote from Sharon Moore.
The @bcswomenlovelace.bsky.social colloquium finally comes to Glasgow! www.linkedin.com/posts/matthe...
