Another nice output from TreE_PlaNat project @uktreescapes.bsky.social: a video on integrating natural processes into woodland creation has just been released www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0N2...
We have known for a while that river tree planting is a great way to reduce flood risks in certain food-prone areas. But what is the best way of planting them for maximum effect?
Our project CASTOR produced this Impact & Insights Note which explains how.

Deer browsing threatens the UK's woodland expansion targets - deer, lovely as they are, eat young trees & saplings. A UK treescapes projects, iDeer, developed an interactive decision support tool that protects our beautiful deer population while growing our forests.

The UK is launching a massive tree planting programme, with two new national forests & planting millions of new trees.
But what is the best way to grow forests? Is it by planting new trees or by allowing trees to spread naturally, or a combination of both?

Impact and insight note from TreE_PlaNat @uktreescapes.bsky.social project is out! Natural colonisation can successfully create structurally diverse woodlands and can be combined with tree planting to reduce the uncertainty of using natural processes alone www.uktreescapes.org/wp-content/u...
Are there any resources I can share? A lot of our research has been written up here: www.uktreescapes.org/impact-and-i...
#Agroforestry is an important tool in the arsenal of farming, protecting soils and livestock against climate change. So why aren't farmers adopting it, and what should policymakers do? Our latest note by @milliehood.bsky.social has some answers.

Our research programme produced some incredible insights, which we brought together as ten top messages that will transform treescapes in the UK.
Here's number 1 - preparing for #climatechange. What do we need to do to ensure resilience?

Our new #TreeDivNet paper led by HernΓ‘n Serrano-LeΓ³n is out in @globalchangebio.bsky.social! Using data from 9 forest diversity experiments across Europe, we showed that tree diversity effects on tree growth responses strengthened during consecutive drought years dx.doi.org/10.1111/gcb....
Our new study in @science.org shows that over half of forests have become more fragmented since 2000, threatening biodiversity and climate.
Brilliantly led by @yibiaozou.bsky.social as part of his PhD β and a huge team effort from @crowtherlab.bsky.social π

There are a myriad of ways that trees have shaped human behaviour, from shaping sleep to using its products to power our consciousness and societies, as this article shows. In turn, our behaviours can help trees perform vital functions such as pollination.
