16th June 1942. As the ships from the aborted Operation VIGOROUS to Malta retreated to Alexandria, the Dido-Class cruiser HMS Hermione was struck by a torpedo from U-205 south of Crete. She sank in 20 minutes and 88 of her crew were killed, but over 400 were rescued by destroyers.

Sly Stone has died. One of the genuine pioneers of modern music, it’s hard to imagine someone like Prince without thinking of Stone.

You just never know what’s waiting around the bend. I decided to explore the point near the ferry landing, and sure enough was met by this beautiful rusted old path out to a lovely lighthouse at the intersection of two great fjords. I loved the colors and the sense of size and space. #norway

One thing they don't tell you about the mid 90s is that every year someone would get three incompatible singers together to perform a power ballad for a film soundtrack or for charity and it would be the worst shit you've ever heard and inescapable for months.
Stars fill this image taken from orbit, with Earth orbiting below. The bright center of the Milky Way stretches downward from top-center of this image, with other white stars scattered throughout. The bottom third of the image is filled by the dark-greenish Earth, somewhat out of focus, with white and purple bands covering its arcing horizon.

We can wish for it all, but we have destroyed so much infrastructure over 30 years of illusory “peace,” I worry we’ll be unable to make even 50% of it possible
Absolutely a classic find!
It's hard for us to imagine climbing *one* 4000-metre peak in the Alps, let alone paraglide back down. However, last summer Chrigel Maurer and Peter von Känel not only did *that* but did it for *all* 82 peaks over 4000 metres in the Alps, and in just fifty-one days. What. A. Story. | 🛩️ 📹 🪽 🥇
